I'd take it to another dealer. Makes a world of difference without the rattle. Trust me

My truck has begun doing this intermittently. Mine also seems to resolve itself on it's own. I have no idea why it sometimes buzzes a little and other times not at all. I'm going to wrap a zip tie around that ECM thing and see if tightening it down makes it go away for good.

Mine was really bad this summer now it’s gone. Toyota could never fix the issue now warranty is up so if the zip tie works like me know!

Mine has only occurred a couple of times, but it sounds like it could be the ECM. When it happened, it was between 1000 and 1400 RPM's. I haven't really been able to replicate it. Though next time it happens, the zip tie goes on, and I will report back.

I’m taking mine to the dealer today to try and fix the problem mine is a constant buzzing when I’m around 2000rpm. This will be the 3rd time I have been to the dealer for this problem the first 2 times they thought it was a loose door panel so maybe I can finally get rid of this noise! I’ll update on if they actually fix it this time

Update on mine for 6 months it was driving me crazy dealership said it was ECM but didn't have a fix. I tried zip ties sound deadner everything. Finally took everything back apart tonight and found a bolt on the back side of glove compartment half way backed out with washer rattling. Tightened and used some blue threadlocker and it fixed it. Mine would only make the noise from around 1600-2000 RPMs for reference.

Mine hasn't buzzed since the last time I posted in this thread. I have no idea why my truck has only done this twice. It has to be some weird, perfect combination of temperature, humidity, road harmonics, etc. Still waiting to see if my zip tie solution will work should it happen again.

Had the same buzzing noise around 2000rpm. Placed a hose clamp and some rubber around the ecm. No noise since.IMG_20181017_193253.jpg

What kind of rubber bands are thoes they replaced the ecm and just made the noise worse and it’s drivin me insane. I just got the truck back from the dealer and I’m tired of going back.

The rubber is some scrap gasket making material I had laying around. I cut a 2"x18" strip, wrapped it around the ecm, then clamped it down with a hose clamp from Ace.

Also I added two 4" strips on each side of the ecm under the long strip to put more pressure on the sides of the ecm. The hose clamp is for 5"-7" pipe. Hope it helps!

I’m having the ECM buzzing problem in my 2015 Tundra. It seems to happens the most right before it shifts when under light to moderate engine load. I wonder if it’s the same issue and the 2018 are having and what the dealer would do if I brought it to them?

Over the last couple of days, the buzzing returned, albeit only for a minute or two. It's very subtle, I might not have noticed if I had my radio on. Both times, it would only do it for a few minutes, then it would stop for the remainder of the time I was driving. When mine would do it, the RPM's were usually around 1200-1400, and it would occur after it upshifted, when I still had the gas applied. It's very strange that I can't replicate it, it just does it once in a great while. Well, I decided to be proactive and got up under the glove box this morning. I'm making an educated guess that it's the ECM. I tied a zip tie around it, and got it nice and tight. After that, I drove around, and have no buzzing. However given my inability to replicate the problem I'm not sure if I fixed it or not. Time will tell. I'll report back to this thread if my solution winds up working or not working.

And the zip tie did nothing. I'm going to try to get up under the glove box, or maybe even remove part of the glove box to get behind it to try to tighten things up. I'm still not 100% sure it's the ECM, the buzzing is very intermittent still.

With yours, is the issue constant? Or is something intermittent? My buzzing seems to be more frequent, but often will only last for 5 minutes at a time, and then the rest of the drive it's quiet. That's going to make the issue much harder for me to figure out.

Yes my issue is constant. It pretty much always makes a hissing/buzzing sound from the ECM if the engine load is correct and when it shifts while under load. It is not loud, if I’ve got the radio turned up I don’t notice it.

Just out of curiosity, how tight did you make that? I'm about to try something similar with a hose clamp, but I don't want to over tighten it, either.

Just snug at first. Then test drove the truck and tightened the clamp a little at a time until buzzing was fixed. I had the same concern as you.

I just noticed the dreaded buzzing sound today for the first time. I was actually stopped at a red light and a truck with a loud exhaust drove by and caused the rattle. So mine rattles while the truck is sitting still. :D Thanks for the fixes --gonna give it a try.

I've been following/commenting in various threads, I was at least able to rule out the ECM as the source of my noise. Mine is most apparent when it's cold, then it quiets down when the truck warms up. The blower motor running has an effect, as when I shut the blower motor off, the noise gets quieter or goes away entirely. There has got to be a piece of plastic or a screw or something that is attached to the blower motor and is loose, or has a tolerance that mostly tightens up when it warms up. I've got to get the glove box removed and give her a once over to make sure everything is secured/tightened up.

Alright, I got a hose clamp, radiator hose, and clamped it like this picture. This is NOT the root of the problem. I have traced it to these metal tubes that bring hot antifreeze into the cab for the heater. The rattle/buzz is most noticeable with the heater on. As soon as I turn it off, the noise goes away. It doesn't do it with the A/C on nor just the fan. *Note: this happens between 1400-1900 rpm in gears higher than first.

I also noticed the black vent tube was loose so I zip tied it to the chassis. I also wrapped radiator hose around one of the silver tubes and zip tied it on to help eliminate the rattle/buzz. Now I'm going to wrap the other silver tube and zip tie them together to see if the sounds goes away. Anybody have any ideas? This is super annoying.

Just saw your post, that might be what's happening with mine, though my RPM range is a little lower than yours, and the noise is most apparent when the engine is "droning". I tried unsuccessfully today to get the glove box off, but I take off the dash piece directly above the glove box, which allows access to the area behind the dash just above the glove box. Since the truck was already warmed up, by the time I got this piece off, it wasn't buzzing at me anymore, but I tried to make sure everything was tightened down. The one thing I did notice was that there is a bundle of wires running parallel to one of the those metal tubes you mentioned, you can see the multi-colored wire bundle in the opening on the far left. Those wires had some play in them, and they were resting on the metal tube. So I zip tied those wires tightly. You can see the zip tie in this picture. When I had my 2016 Tacoma, I had a buzzing noise from the glove box area and the culprit was a similar bundle of wires. I have no idea if this solution is going to work, but I figured it was worth a shot. Please keep us posted if your solution of wrapping hose around those metal pipes works. This is the one thing about my truck that is driving me crazy.

I've taken my glovebox off five times already. I'm a Pro! haha I can give you tips if you need them. Nice work on what you are doing. Hope it helps your cause. Mine is definitely coming from the area of the two silver tubes. But its weird that its most noticeable when the heater is on.
