So I have had one I believe to be a 2003 transmission installed into my 2000 Tundra but I never bothered to verify. Does anyone have the ability to run the tag to see the origin? I even bought a transmission dipstick tube to place on to the new transmission but was told it was not needed and was not used. The transmission shop is always done right by me or so I have thought but the big red flag was another first gen Tundra in the back of the lot at the same time my truck was there. Perhaps it was coincidence

I have to wonder why you're interested. If the transmission is performing well, why would it matter if the transmissions were accidentally swapped at the transmission shop? Wouldn't it be the same if a later model transmission was bought used at a junk yard? Maybe the answer to my questions is in what the shop told you and how much you paid for the work.

Did the transmission shop put a used transmission in your truck? If that’s the case it would be a improvement getting one out of a 2003

Possibly, but it would depend on what he paid for.

I'm sorry gentlemen I need to give more back story and I failed to do so.

I purchase the Boneyard transmission from a yard out of Kenosha. The trans was reported to be out of a 2003 with 53,000 miles on it at the time of its demise. I realized that the 03 transmission would be an improvement and that's why it was purchased and installed.

So when I went to pick up the vehicle it ran fine and shifted smooth and I would have thought that some of the shift points or The the manners of the junkyard transmission I'll albeit slight but still be noticeable. That has not been the case and while I have still pulled campers and driven several thousand miles perhaps I should have been a little more suspicious. It was just a funny feeling when I saw another first generation Tundra in the back lot. You can call it my Spidey Sense or whatever but nonetheless it is as it stands. I'm not sure if it is my original transmission, a transmission from a different 1st Gen Tundra of the same year or a transmission out of the 03.

For any manufacturered item, serial numbers will sometimes have the dob embedded in them so that warranty service and parts can be provided with only the serial number. Your pics of the casting numbers are irrelevant to dob, because they are clearly not changeable with the date. When castings are dated, the molds will have changeable digits on plates that are screwed into the molds, and which then emboss the casting date into the cores.

It appears that you have an even later transmission that you believed: This transmission is the same as Toyota A340E. It appears to have been the 2,628th 30-40LE transmission manufactured at this plant in June, 2004. It is a 2WD transmission. See Post #14 of this thread:

I appreciate the answer sir. Thank you.

Then the shop did right by me and I may have been a little apprehensive for no reason. They've always appeared to do good work as I have had several of my vehicles through his operation with decent results. The two wheel drive transmission has performed well for me and if I have read correctly I have a beefier 04 tranny as opposed to the original weaker 2000 transmission.
