It’s actually in with the 14.95 charge where it says grease, oil and filter. They use WIX filters.

Just a statement here for caution as not all dealers are fair and reputable. That should not be big news here. Be advised there can be issues with your DIY oil changes. I can't speak for all dealers but a long time ago I had a dealer question my oil changes and wanted me to show receipts for the oil and oil filters I had purchased for the vehicle. Fortunately I had the receipts and I was able to show them the receipts and they backed off that part. Then the service manager tried to tell me that the aftermarket oil filter I had used was not a suitable replacement for the factory filter. When I informed the manager that I would inform the aftermarket manufacturer that they were denying me my warranty claim because their filter did not meet the OEM specs. I shared with him that I was confident they would be hearing from their lawyers very soon. The service manager then backed down and accepted my vehicle met the factory service requirements. All this for an occasional intermittent starter issue. They never fixed it. I figured it out and fixed it myself. Just a FYI that dealer is no longer in business.

Am I saying do not do your own oil changes? Absolutely not. Just saying keep your receipts, and document your oil changes.

Holy smokes 100$ for an oil change??? Im sorry man. I would file a complaint with their regional office for not disclosing the price to you ahead of time

With all due respect, your dealer was clueless regarding the warranty. You could never have changed your oil and that would have had NO WARRANTY EFFECT on your starter. They are not associated but dealers like to try to play that card to get out of warranty work. Magnuson-Moss warranty act governs this.

If this is your first change, you should be coverage under Toyota Care, right?

OP's Tundra is a 2015, so out of the free service plan.

Oil Change, Tire Rotation & Inspection go for about $80 here in Phoenix at the dealerships. I extended my ToyotaCare to 75K miles, so no service charges anytime soon for me

Here is the dilemma I am in: the nearest Toyota dealer is 40 minutes from me and have heard horror stories about them. The dealer I bought my Tundra from in December is 1 hour 20 minutes, 80 miles away. With the cost of fuel and the mpg of the Tundra. I am way better off doing these myself assuming the cost of gas is on the upward trend. I did buy the extended platinum warranty and I know it comes with 2 years of free maintenance but I'm just not seeing how it's cost feasible for just an oil change. I plan on getting a Fumoto valve and one of the aluminum filter housings and installing them on my first oil change.

I will also likely be adding the aluminum filter housing and Fumoto valve (after my ToyotaCare runs out). Looks like it will make the DIY oil changes a breeze.

We're in the same boat. I don't trust the dealer to change my oil. I bought a Fumoto f103s, the aluminum housing, and drain hose. I feel I can do a better job. I've been servicing my Toyotas for 21 years.

Oh, I agree. However, due to my preparedness and knowledge I was able to eliminate the lawyers and the dealer backed down. While this was going on I explained this was a starter issue and not related to oil changes. He didn't care. I think he just wanted me to pay for the repairs. I should have known they were going to be trouble as their sales staff were shady also.

FWIW: This was the wife's car with a stick shift. We traded cars for a week until I could duplicate the problem. Found out with the clutch pedal all the way down it was shorting out a chaffed wire harness. With the wire harness shorted out the starter would not engage. I fixed the chaffed wire and repositioned the wire harness. No problem after that.

I think I paid $1,270. I added up the costs of all the services and it was a slight savings. It's nice to pay once and not have to worry again for a few years.

I always do my own oil changes, but I feel that the shop should have given you an accurate assessment of the price before you agreed to have the work done. Did they not give you a work order to sign showing the price?

My local shop does this oil change for $38. Full synthetic up to 9 quarts plus oil filter.
