Went in for my first oil change in the Tundra. Sign says “10 min oil change 24.99”
After it was done, I went to pay and it was 104.99. I was then told my truck only takes full synthetic at $15.99/qt.
    Is this accurate?
I feel they should have told me prior to starting the job, but also want to know if this is normal pricing.

Seems a bit high, but they call don't call them "Steelerships" for nothing. One should always ask about the advertised pricing and if or how it applies especially at Steelerships. . If you just ask for something or service without discussing price they usually charge the full rates.

    Yes they recommend synthetic.

That rate is probably for a Prius.

I have a few receipts from Toyota dealerships I've been to when I bring Tundra out to work, just under $80 to do

This was just some little quickie shop.
I’ve always done my own in the past, but the new RV travel life doesn’t allow for it.

Same reason I just had to pay $600 for a brake job.

I really hate not being able to work on my own vehicles.

Yeah depending on specials, sales, etc..... most dealers around here will be around $80 or so to change oil and filter, rotate tires, inspection, etc....

For me personally I dont want to hassle with the heat or the mess. I just pay someone else to deal with it. $80 well spent for me.

I do mine myself. Never took advantage of the free oil changes from Toyota either. I feel they should’ve been upfront with you. I have gone to those quick lube places in the past and they always told me how much it was going to cost before hand. I would’ve told them you should’ve been upfront with me. Go ahead and dump that shit out and put my old oil back in. Which of course they won’t do. But it gets the point across.

I buy 2 5 quart jugs from Walmart at about $23-$25 a apiece. I also buy my oem filters through Amazon. And after the oil change I have 2 quarts left over for top off and towards the next oil change. Overall it probably cost me around $60 to change the oil myself or less if you count the fact that I have leftover oil.

Eight quarts of synthetic and a filter for 24.99 would be a great deal. I’m going to let the dealer do my oil changes now that I’m getting older. The first two are free anyway.

I've always changed the oil in my tacoma and will probably do so in my new to me Tundra. You guys that change your own oil, do you just keep all receipts and write down the mileage? Especially if still under warranty.

Oh, even DIY maintenance? I didn't even think about that. I'm certified until 100K and didn't want to jeopardize any warranty claims by doing my own maintenance. Thanks!

Just had my first oil change done at my trusted local off road shop. They use NAPA oil. Love my shop- they even noticed my exhaust tip is 1/2” lower on the passenger side! $66.28 including washer fluid!91E7A2F9-2AE9-4D4F-85CC-F867A144F197.jpg
