Long post so bare with me.....

Ok so I upgraded my 2016 Tundra with the 2018 LED OEM headlights about 10 days ago. I purchased them and the plug and play harness and DRL Harness from Headlight Revolution. Installation was simple and easy, done in about 40 minutes (including taking off grill and panels and putting them back on). This week I went ahead and upgraded all the lights to LEDs. When I installed the LED Turn signal lights and resistors everything looked great....until I noticed that all of my tail lights were inop when the lights were turned on. They worked when the brake was pushed in and when put into reverse, but the DRL in back wouldn't work along with the license plate lights and fog lights. My first thought was blown fuse, so I inspected and found that the 15A fuse under steering wheel (tabled TAIL) was blown out. So I replaced it, turn the truck on and then turned the headlights on, and POP. The fuse blew again! I took the LED turn signals out installed the stock halogens, and then replaced another 15A fuse, and they worked fine. I then made sure that the resistor was installed correctly and it was, I checked all fuses and relays and they were fine. So am I pulling too much power somewhere?? Confused because LEDs draw significantly less power than halogens.

I also took it to a buddy of mine who does customization specializing in lights and he said maybe try and 20A fuse in place of that 15A. So I guess ill try that next, but just wanted to throw out my issue and see if anyone else is having or has had issues or has a resolution.

    thanks for any inputs

You kind of answered your own question. If you took the LED's out and replaced stock halogens an fuse doesn't blow then more than likely your LEDs are the problem or you create a short somewhere when you install the LED's causing the fuse to blow.

I know, I was more trying to see if anyone has run into the same issue before. I have installed LEDs on several vehicles and never have I run into this problem. I still am going to try and out a 20A fuse in when I get home, and then start the process over.

I'd be careful about putting a higher amp fuse in. That can cost you some $$/headache/time if you burn up something

You have the wrong type of LED installed. I have experienced the same issue then upon investigating, I found out the there are two types of socket - a standard socket with the ground and positive on opposite side of the wedge and a CK socket with the positive and ground on the same side of the wedge. You need to get a CK LED turn signal bulb, this will eliminate your issue.

    Hope this help.

This is the message I received from iHacker when I was experiencing the same issue.

You can’t use your current LED turn signal bulb in the new housings they are completely different bulb old trucks use a 3157CK bulb and the new headlights use a smaller 7444NA

You will need to get a 7444NA LED Bulb

No I have the correct bulb 7440 series. The 3157 are bigger. I think its the CK socket, I am trying to see if the ones I bought are CK compatible, if not then that's my issue.

Makoy339....just curious...would they work at all if i had the wrong type? Because the LED turn signals works they just keep blowing the fuse to tail light fuse.

If remember correctly, my turn signals were working properly but once I turn on the parking lights and use the turn signals, the 15Amp fuse blows up. I switched to the 7444NA (i believe 7443 is the same type of bulb), and everything works fine.

Ok well I have the 7443 bulb, but I just looked at the package and it says nothing about CK, so I think that maybe where my issue is. I’ll let you know! Thanks

I see your truck is a SR5 correct?

This have nothing to do with fuses, when you repined your turn signals maybe you reused the violet wire in center location, this is a no no! I’m not sure why they never corrected their installation guide this is a old issue from 2017,

Remove the violet wire and you should be fine

No SR5, and thank you for the post. But headlight revolution have an easy breakdown of what to switch up including the pun connectors (purple and white/black). I had to order some of the CK type LEDs so I’ll know in a couple days if that was my problems. Everything else had been trouble shot and messed with and nothing else comes to mind

The problem is the new headlights use different bulb for turn signals

Trucks with Amber DRL don’t have to reuse the violet wire in turn signals to avoid back feeding to license plate and tail lights circuitry
