True, both ends are BLM. I figured both nights would be inside the preserve, but we can always make stops for fun.

I just have a silicone tube pointed towards the front of the truck so that the tire doesn't fling anything inside the intake. It worked well to deflect most stuff but I definitely cant submerge it.

Does your route avoid both Mojave River and Soda Lake? Not sure if both are a problem or just one of them.

I want a full write-up afterwards. Planning a full East to West run at the end of March.

Soda lake might be a mess with all this rain.

I think I'm going to have to get a trail condition report from Alex after his trip and then adjust the route for this trip accordingly.

No we still bomb soda lake. Its possible to go around it, but that wouldn't be very fun...

Well, Mojave is a desert and they haven't been getting as much rain as the rest of us. But true story, it might be a mess.

I only report major obstacles. Medium and minor make fun surprises

We're good with fun surprises, I'm more interested in a heads up for impassable routes due to flooding or closures that would put us at risk.

I heard from my Overland Bound friends that the water crossing is at "Normal" levels (about 30 inches according to Mojave Ranger Station) but that Soda "dry" Lake is a giant boggy mess.

Oh, and Afton Canyon is slick as snot in places.

It's pouring rain here now and checked the radar and it looks like Mojave is getting rain as well. rove across Soda lake once about a week after a rain and will never do it again. Nastiest mud and also full of salt. Hopefully it won't be bad or the rain is missing the preserve.

Sounds like big chunks of the westside will need to be detoured.

Hard to say. They are getting rain now but not sure how much. Alex will be able to give you a trip report. But I think it's supposed to rain again on Monday the 11th.
