That too would be a restriction not to different from what you're applauding they overrode. Do you really mean that I must take a gun safety course before I go to a local FFL fill out the paperwork for the NICS background? Also remember this, having a drivers license doesn't make someone a safe driver.

Constitutional Carry does not supersede the requirement to legally purchase a firearm. It simply states that a person can exercise his God given rights as outlined in the US Constitution. If you really think it about it it's kind of odd that we need laws to grant us rights that we are already granted by the ultimate law of the land.

Safety training is a good and prudent thing, but as with most things it should be a choice and not a requirement. Freedom recognizes and protects rights, it does not ensure safety.

    Great!

More untrained idiots running around with guns. Exactly what we need. WoooooHooooo

    Quote:

The marquee section generally allows gun owners to pack them concealed without the need of passing the special training and paying permit fees the state has required since 2004. The issue has divided Missouri politics, largely along urban-rural lines, much longer than that.

Good point I never thought about it like that. So should a course be a complete volunteer option with some sort of incentive?

I can see where you are coming from but is it Constitutionally Legal for someone to have to pay a fee for them to use the very right that is authorized by the Constitution?

I'm not sure what Missouri's CC classes are like, but in my state it's more of a class about the law, when it's appropriate to use deadly force, and things like that. It has always been on the user to make sure they obtained the proper training. It should be noted that there are only 13 states in the US that I cannot legally conceal in, with zero requirement for firearms training. What Missouri is doing is not so far removed from what's already happening.

I personally completely support Constitutional Carry, and feel that removing restrictions for law-abiding people will serve to increase people's familiarity and therefor ability and competence with firearms.

Full disclosure: I'm a trained idiot running around with guns.. So obviously I'm biased.

Please show me in the second amendment where it states you shall not be infringed upon to carry a concealed weapon.......

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Listen, you can own a weapon, have it at your home, work/business, car depending on what state you reside. Hell, you can even bear arms in most states (open carry). These are the rights that shall not be infringed upon.

I'm all for people taking defensive shooting, legal and gun safety classes. I've taken said classes, and grew up in a family where gun safety was stressed early and often. Despite this, I believe that requirements to exercise your rights can be used as a way to deter people who don't come from the same background as I do. Just because freedoms are dangerous doesn't mean we should have to jump through hoops to exercise them.

Wouldn't your statement make sense to actually get training before you go out into this wonderful country we live in carrying a concealed weapon? I have seen people (shocking that most of them were guys) shake uncontrollably from holding a gun. Do you people actually think this is a good idea to say "Fuck it, not my problem"....until you take a slug.

Like I said, I encourage people I meet that want to carry to take classes. Especially the ones who aren't as familiar with guns. But it's not the place of our government to tell us what we have to do to take advantage of a God given right.

I honestly feel those guys aren't out there taking advantage of a constitutional carry law..

I totally respect your opinion and can even relate to it, so please don't take the fact that I disagree on the final point as disrespect.

Ehhh I'm with @ColoradoTJ. IMO, if you carry, you should be able to prove that you can do so safely and properly. There's no substitute for training and practice. And IMO, it's the best middle ground we can achieve with a bi-party system that is so at odds with eachother.
In NV, you take a two day course. Day one is in a classroom. Day two is on the range. You must pass a written test (mostly around laws and safe handling) and pass a qualification test at the range. Qualification is broken down into two categories: semi-autos and revolvers/DAO.

You may have me wrong people, I am all about the Pew-Pew life....trust me. I have been a legal CCW holder for over 20 years now, do some private shooting/safety lessons on the side (not charging anything, more of a help a citizen out kind of thing). From the things I have seen, people need to get out and "practice" a lot more. On Wednesday of this week I was training with someone in the rain. I almost forgot how more difficult accuracy is when your weapon/hands/clothing is soaked and when moving. AR wasn't bad, but I don't walk around like a moron with mine strapped to my chest either.

People need to know the legality of the huge responsibility. This is what I believe should be mandatory. I really don't think the "well I didn't know that..." BS really doesn't cut it.

Rights and Responsibilities. If you exercise your right to carry which I fully support; also know it is an enormous responsibility that goes along with that (previously mentioned above). Get the training and not just once then call it good. Commit to training as a way of life. You will be held accountable for every round fired. Understand what happens to your body when the rounds are incoming and you take a hit, working through the adrenaline dump, tunnel vision, auditory exclusion, reaction time from threat detection, perception, shoot.. no shoot, back drop, draw and fire. Having the training and a plan before the proverbial shtf..You will never rise to the occasion. You will revert back to your training and if it is woefully inadequate or non existent you will suffer the consequences. Just as if you have no plan and try to formulate one under a life and death situation.
To all who exercise our right to carry take the responsibility that goes with it seriously. Be safe always and God bless.

I agree with @ColoradoTJ 110%. In this day and age, wayyyyy after the constitution was written with 321 million less people in this country (see how i said less, in 1788 there were roughly 3 million people in the US) than today, it just doesn't make sense. Too many people with too many problems with way too many new stressors in life that live WAY to close to everyone else. Trust me, Im anti-govt (to a degree) and Im all for the people of this country... but I have seen way too many people that should never conceal-carry, let alone handle without supervision.

It only makes sense right? I love me my guns please don't get me wrong... but our fore fathers could not have dreamed of weapons like we have today... and in the wrong hands (like we have seen) and with so many people around, it can be and has been pure chaos. But Iam 100% all for owning and having the right to bear arms as long as the arms exist lol.

Today more than ever the founding fathers would have argued for the right to keep and bear arms. A cursory look at the Federalist Papers and other patriotic writings of the time will confirm this - the idea is that people have the right to possess the same weapons as government, because the 2nd is the amendment that protects all of the others. The 2nd wasn't for hunting or sporting, it was very clearly meant as a means to keep a corrupt and ever-expanding central government in check. Second to that was to have the ability to defend ones self, family, and property from those that would try to do harm. The amount of people on the planet or the type of technology we possess has nothing to do with the inherent right to self defense against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

You are correct, and I agree. It was merely a statement, not implying that we should not have the right to bear arms. I was more going off my statement to ColoradoTJ about conceal carry..trying to show how far we have come and how much more dangerous it has become due to the population rising and technology advances that no one could have foreseen.
