1st oil change- AmsOil???

Quick and simple intro post: Who here has swapped over to Amsoil on 1st change- thoughts? Comments? Go-

About my new girlfriend; shes a new '18 TRD Sport- in storm trooper white-

 

Many have gone to a synthetic, seems Mobil1, the most. Amsoil is good stuff!

 

I'm at 108K miles and since I've bought it at 60K I've been using Mobil-1. If someone can convince me that the extra cost is worth it I might try it. Until then I'll pass.

Ive had good experiences with mobile 1 on other trucks.

 

The 0W-20 that we are supposed to be using is synthetic. You won't convince me M1 or Amsoil is worth it.

 

Penzzoil platinum can be found at walmart for around $20 for 4 quarts. At least last time i looked.

I dont think i could justify paying amsoil's premium price. Granted, i do believe their product is a top contender and worth it for those that dont mind the higher cost.

 

Ask yourself,
Where is the amsoil refinery located ?

If you change your oil every 5000 miles, any quality synthetic will do. Don't forget the filter ...

 

Ahh... Toyota uses Mobile 1..

Your initial fill from the factory is synthetic on almost all modern engines. Stay with the synthetic. And yes, Amsoil.

Do you happen to know what the previous owner used? I'm asking because I'm in the same situation. I bought my Tundra at 63K miles but would like to use Mobil 1 synthetic from here on out. No problems in my 06 Tacoma w/ 217K miles using Mobil 1.

 

Yep.....synthetic oils are like designer drugs. Amsoil and Royal Purple are high quality chemically refined examples. I've got 8 bottles of Amsoil that's going in next oil change coming up. Was going to use one of my oem filters but scored a M1 filter yesterday for only $13 with Advanced Auto discounts.

 

Not all synthetics are alike and neither are refining processes. Has nothing to do with refinery location at all.

I have never used Amsoil in my Tundra but used to run it in my 4 wheeler. I have always ran Mobile 1 in my Trans Am and Tundra. But I did get an offer from my cousin's husband to come over and use his lift and some Amsoil next time haven't decided weather I was going to yet though.

 

Can't hurt. I paid less than $9 a quart with free shipping. Not a whole lot more than extended performance M1 which I'm using now. Looks like your cousin buys bulk. Way cheaper.

 

Yeah he has two Tundras and bought that to change his own.

 

Amsoil Signature Series base stock is not petroleum oil. They don't use and don't need a refinery.

 

Today's products are top notch and IMO I think anything will take you to 250,000. I take mine to Toyota.

 

I was an Amsoil dealer, key word "was." 10 to 30 years ago they had superior product for consumers. The margin in quality is too slim today with big oil entering full syn markets and consumer appetite using it at rebate prices from M1 and Penz. I still buy the grease once and awhile. I ran an amsoil bypass oil filter system on my f150 for 250k miles. I am sure it helped but engine timing guides still shattered and valve guide seals leak, was it worth it, meh.

Today i buy 5 qt jugs on rebate from Walmart, either Penz Platinum or M1 extended performance.

 

I use amsoil 0w-20 signature series, so far so good!

 

What's your opinion on Amsoil grease?

 

Have you ever heard, if the proper type, weight and interval is used, of an engine failing due to brand of oil used?
OP any brand is fine as long as it's the proper type.

I notice some people will change their oil based on mileage, and others will change their oil based on mileage or time...say every six months regardless of mileage.

Is there something in the oil additive package that wears out or oxidizes over time regardless of how many miles are on the oil?

I can't imagine the oil itself wears out over a period of six months, seeing how it is already several million years old. What's another six months?

Anyway, I'm just curious about this.

Of course not. Didn't realize that was the topic here. You are stating the captain obvious. Although.......using certain synthetics can not only extend change intervals without causing your engine to fail but can extend engine life. You sort of left that tidbit of info out....

Amsoil DOES NOT have a refinery. They don’t produce their own oil. They do buy stock oil, add their proprietary ingredients, and repackage. I stated any quality synthetic oil (correct oil of course) will do if your change the oil and filter at correct intervals. Prove me wrong .... Better yet, prove amsoil is any better than synthetic ... Good Luck

 

I run mobil 1 in my fleet. 5qt Walmart jug can't be beat. Is amsoil better? Probably. I run it in the diffs, transmissions, transfer cases etc... I don't think the mobil 1 will fail in the 5000 mile interval. I'd rather have fresh mobil1 in there every 5,000 than amsoil every 10-12,000. In a race engine or severe service situation? Spend the $$$. For daily driving duty? Mobil 1 is just fine.

 

Look at thread title. No one here has claimed Amsoil is best and certainly don't need to prove anything to you.

 

I've never used Amsoil before. Always M-1. I am trying out Amsoil for the first time . I was highly intrigued with @Ericsopa test results using Amsoil. The OP, @Dstride, just might be interested too since it's related to his thread. @Ericsopa's Black Stone Lab results......................
