Hi! New here - just got back from hubby's shop feeling disappointed, after new wheels Fuel Krank's 20" x 10" with -12mm offset & Mastercraft Courser MXT 305 x 55R20 tires were delivered. I ordered 2.5" leveling kit that won't be enough to stop rubbing, even with trimming. Hubby says order 6" lift kit - suggestions & input would greatly be appreciated. Since the truck is new, 2016 Limited Crew Cab, I'd like to keep the smoothest ride possible - I don't want to bounce down the road - I have a Jeep for that. :)
    Thanks

Not sure I want to answer this without speaking to him....lol

    How much rubbing? Which parts?
What does he use the truck for? Pavement or some real off roading?

    Oh you funny guy!
We mounted it and put the tire on the front and lifted it to the height it would be with leveling kit - it hit the front just behind bumper & the back of the wheel well, and not just a little bit. The -12mm offset is what is causing it.
It's my truck, and it will be a bad a$$ grocery getter -lol

PERSONALLY I would not. I'd look more for a 3.5-4" lift.

Get wheels with more positive offset and problem solved. You are gonna rub the shit out of the cab mount with -12 on a 10" wide wheel. You're off the sweet spot by almost 3/4". Even a cab mount chop won't fix that. I run bigger tires than yours with no rubbing at all. It's all about getting the right back spacing/offset to fit the truck.

Yep, your offset is way too low for tundras. I'd get between 18 and 35 offset if you want to keep an aggressive stance.

good ride and 6" lift are never gonna happen. Are you doing serious off road with this truck? If so you have chosen the way wrong tire profile....55 series you will bend rims instantly. Sell the 20s and go with an 18 inch rim. If you want a half decent ride you will never get it with your set up.

I got a stage 2 pro comp 6 inch lift and have no problems with it, love the ride. It's smooth, and responsive

Thank you for responses! Fortunately we can return the wheels (from the hubby's tire supplier)
If I change the wheel to 20"x 9" with +20mm offset, (same tires - 305/55R20) also installing 2.25" leveling kit -do you think this will work w/o too much trimming?
My head is spinning from all the different sites I've been looking at - figured I should just ask the people that truly know - YOU guys
    Thanks again!

I don't know how tall you are, but it does make it harder to get in when you lift it. My wife is 5' 6" and after 3.5 inch OME lift, she did mention it's somewhat more cumbersome to get in.

If you are primarily interested in smooth ride, then you could

    a) return the truck to stock and change out to 18 inch wheels with p-rated street tires. Stock is pretty well optimized for comfort.

    b) Pro suspension is reported to give you a better ride than stock. It's specifically tuned for Tundras so it should be easy install. But it's not cheap. Again, smaller wheels and more rubber gives you a smoother ride.

In either case, your wheels and tires won't work unless you are willing to cut some serious stuff. Of course, if you are going with specific looks (which these 'crazy' (at least to me) offset/width wheels are designed to do), by all means keep them. Then your husband is probably correct in recommending a larger lift. You will most likely have to cut your truck frame to install it.

That set-up will work. You may need to take small flap in the front off and push wheel well liner a bit (Some use a heat gun). I unscrewed the liner, pushed it and drilled other holes to tuck in tighter.)

Sorry about the previous post. I didn't see your post before posting mine.

    Nice ride chphilo!
Thanks for info! I'm 5'8" and I have to stretch the leg a little extra to get in now- lol!
I guess I should also mention that I have TRD off road package? Not sure if that matters with trying for bigger wheels? I have the TRD 18" 5 spoke wheels now, which I don't really care for- looks wise- they ride beautifully- looking for the "lip" but from what I'm figuring out, is that I need to go more + with the offset to have them fit, but then losing the look I'm trying to achieve.
All input is welcome and appreciated .

Each to their own, but I think 33's on a 6" lift looks like the truck skipped leg day.

    Thanks.

TRD shocks ride a little rougher than non-TRD shocks. So if you are satisfied with current ride, then you should be easy to please.

Stock wheels are +60 mm and 8 inches wide. Less you go in offset, more wheels are pushed out. So if you get about +10 mm offset with 8 inch width, it will be about 2 inches more pushed out than the stock wheel. Most wheels are 9 inches wide so add another 1/2 inch to that.

The offset range that seems to give the least amount of headache seems to be 30-35 (for 9 inch width) lower you go more likely you will have rubbing. With 9 inch wide wheels, and the tire size you are looking at, you will probably have tiny bit of tire sticking out of the wheel well. I've seen guys installing 35 inch tires with that offset without rubbing.

I wanted to get fender flares so I wanted the tires to be roughly even with fender flares. So I went with 18 mm offset. I cannot install 35 inch tires with this offset without cutting my truck (even with 3.5 inches). So I 'settled' with 34.5 inch tires. With minor mods, no rubbing.

To give you an idea of how much it sticks out

That's more or less what I was telling the hubby ;) I don't want the 6" lift (right now) so I'm looking for advice as to what to do for now. :)

Fender flares are on the way - I don't mind if they stick out a bit, I just don't want the rubbing. The Fuel Krank wheels that I like only offer +1mm or +20mm - maybe I should start looking at other wheels?

I think 20 mm offset wheels will look sweet with fender flares.
