    I'm installing a gibson metal mulisha cat back exhaust on my ride. Because the cat isn't getting messed with, the check engine light shouldn't come on after the install correct?

    Should be no reason to see a CEL after the exhaust install. Just disconnect the ground of the battery when you start and re connect when done to let the ECU re-adjust.

    Not understanding the need for this. Its all downstream from the catalytic converter and O2 sensors.

    Higher flow exhaust = more efficient = more power. But from my understanding it's recommended to let the ECU re learn after any performance mods so it can adjust. Aftermarket intakes are the same way and usually even states to do so in the install instructions.

    I don't think you have to disconnect the battery. I never did with my exhaust nor with my intake. I think it's just more efficient to disconnect the battery to speed up the ECU's adjusting process.
