TRD exhaust dumped after axle. Cons?

Thinking about changing my exhaust on my truck. I have the dual TRD exhaust but I have never liked the dual side exit tips. I'm thinking about removing the rear pipe kit and dumping it right after the axle. I'd like to keep the rear flanges after the mufflers since I could always go back to normal if I wanted or decided to sell the system. Anyone know of any cons to dumping the exhaust after the axle? Something like this.

 

I say go for it. When I upgrade my exhaust I am going to do a turn down for the same reason. I don't like dual tips out the back or on opposite sides. I would be fine with dual tips on the same side like stock. Turn downs are gnarlier.

 

Check your local law. In PA, you won't pass the inspection. The law specifies that the exit has to be outside the body line of the vehicle.

maybe if it was a sedan and you had holes in the floor pans, but you will not have any issues with CO in the cab if the exhaust is dumped below the bed.

 

I know but try telling the liberal lawmakers that. They would say the gap between bed and cab would create a vacuum thereby drawing CO in through the rear roll down window...yadda yadda yadda

 

You will be fine. The exhaust is gonna dump at the axle it won't be that bad. I've ran turndowns right under the seats of past cars. Only complaint is heat and droning on the highway

 

Not really worried about CO poisoning. There are manufactured exhaust made to dump before the rear axle so after the axle is even farther from the cab. I've read some reports of dumped exhaust causing premature bed rust. Anyone running dumped exhaust ever noticed this?

 

Check you local state smog test regs to be sure. The smog probe has to be able to "function" without assistance from the tester. At least here in CO. Do you want to hold the smog test probe while your truck is RPM'd up during the test???

 

Luckily central Indiana has no testing for vehicles. Only testing is up by Lake Michigan area.

If you have no inspection (and it seems that Indiana law does not specify where the exhaust is dumped. Someone correct me if I am wrong), go for it. If you don't like it, you could always go back. Post up some before and after videos.

 

Alaska was pretty lax on smog tests too if I remember correctly. I don't think it should be a problem. I say go for it too.

 

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I am going to remove the TRD exhaust and go with a MBRP 5320 dumped syatem. I just don't want to mess with the TRD exhaust. I will probably end up selling the TRD exhaust once the new one is on.

Yes, I did get the MBRP exhaust. It droned pretty bad at 65-70 mph so I had a MBRP 1013 resonator added to it after the muffler. It now dumps after the axle. Killed most of the drone but still left a good sound. I like it.
