This is on the end from the entrance of Fish Creek. Not after you exit heart attack hill.

Oh, that's a good spot. If we can't go over it, we can backtrack and go to the Mud Caves. Anyone ever run Pinyon Mountain Valley? In the book it looks like the section called "the squeeze" is too narrow for our trucks?

hey is that page out of Guide to California Back Roads? Cool little map there. Something I need to add to my kit so I do not have to reply on Gaia all the time.

JK's scrape at the squeeze so I do not think a Tundra could make it. Get video if you try.

Yup, good book. I only use it to pick trails, it's not very useful once out on the trail though.

Anyone know if Diablo Dropoff is passable? The little section connecting Sandstone to Mud Caves? The book says you have to pass through difficult "Broken Shaft" Gulch. Is it doable?

I did it last weekend in my stock lift TRD4x4. You will have no problem my man. Diablo drop off doesn't not seem that bad right now either. I almost wanted to try to go up it but this guys said I shouldn't unless I had a rear locker.

With the wild flowers in bloom in Ocotillo Wells, does anyone have insight into how the traffic is in the park? I'll enjoy looking at the flowers out my window for 5 seconds, but if I'm going to drive all the way there my objective is to wheel and I don't want to be stuck behind a bunch of cars going 2mph.

The worst traffic at bloom time is near the Visitors Center, over on the west side of Anza-Borego, near the bottom of the steep grade in.

Coming over through Warner Springs, you can skip that left turn off to S-22 (Ranchita Rd.) to go down the grade, and keep going toward Ocatillo on the 78. Should miss the "bloomers", but may follow off-roaders pulling their toys to the OHV park.

    What she said

The traffic will be heavy and you're gonna see lots of minivans stuck in the sand. Do not help them. I recommend cracking a brewski and laughing at them
Come in on the 78 and use dirt trails to get to where you want to go and you should be fine. Even better, take Grapevine canyon from Ranchita; it dump out onto the 78

If it hasn't already been said, Diablo drop-off is officially one-way (west to east). That doesn't mean anyone abides by that rule, but in case you come across a ranger...

Pinyon Mtn is also one-way (west-to-east) but because of "the squeeze" it's not an option. Sandstone ("gatekeeper") is a dead-end so I haven't bothered with that either.

Like Sunnier said, we avoid the visitor's center and the town of Borrego Springs itself. We run south from Scissors's Crossing on S-2 and then turn left on Vallecitos Wash and take that to Arroyo Tapiado (mud caves, bring head lamp) and then to Diablo and on to Fish Creek (wind caves also worth a look).

From what I hear, Diablo used to be much worse than it is now, but they smoothed it out a few years ago after someone rolled. I've been down it three or four times WITH A SPACER LIFT o_O and it's really nothing too crazy. Going up might be a bit of a challenge, but I've yet to try. On busy days, Diablo becomes a bit of a party as folks hang out at the top while watching rigs come and go. Honestly, I've seen stock Subees and Jeep Liberties make it down with little difficulty.

The attached map is available on the ABDSP website. They also have a list of trail conditions in case recent rains have messed anything up.

So, has anyone seen the latest creation from Savage Fab? Word on the street is that some crazy stuff was going on down there last weekend.

    @nishibot @papasmurf ? :popcorn:

The again, maybe it was just idle talk.

    Probably idle chatter... ....

There might be a bit of tweaking gonna happen on nishibot's ride-- and, of course, sunnier is just a nosy neighbor twitching curtains, so she can't really share anything factual....

( :spy: It's possible, there may be a couple of new build threads coming soon....)
