Generally speaking, what fire extinguisher does everyone suggest? Plan is to mount it in the bed of the truck, and as its likely to see 100deg heat back there often, I'm concerned that any ole extinguisher won't hold up. What say you?

Also, I plan to mount it on the Victory4x4 Molle rack. Somewheres around the area circled. What to use? Quick Fists, or something that maybe already comes with the extinguisher?

    Thanks in advance.

You'll want an ABC class extinguisher, 5lb minimum, 10lb is better.

I cant speak to mounting to that rack, but quick fists are great in general.

This looks to be a good one. If you check the website for First Alert, says max temp to store it is 120. I don't know if I would put one in the bed of my truck in Texas.

That’s a good point. I just put on my black color diamondback. It does get hot in Maryland in the summer, and you have me rethinking an extinguisher in the bed. Does anyone know of a brand that tolerates heat?

I'd like to find something rated for higher temps too. I don't see any mention of it on Amerex's website (B402, anyway). Although I guess between the bed and cab, I would think the cab would get hotter? And if something did go wrong, I'd rather it go wrong somewhere other than where I sit.

Not sure about the heat in direct sunlight, but most travel trailer owners, myself included, have an extinguisher in their trailer.
I'm sure mine gets pretty damn hot inside when sitting in storage here during a 115 degree Tucson summer day and I've never had a problem with it.

    Good info Azblue, thanks.

One thing I'm seeing: avoid plastic parts. Go with all metal construction. Or so some of the other 4x4 specific forums say. Makes sense to me, especially given heat considerations.

maybe @brimy311 could come up with dedicated fire extinguisher mount for the bed :)

i was thinking a stand alone mount for the bed rail. Not specifically for the Molle panel.

I'd think it would have to mount horizontally then, yeah? Vertically and it would flop around stressing the rail probably to failure. And if horizontal, it would probably stick up above where a tri fold could close...

Mines been mounted horizontally for over 2 years now - so far like a charm

The one I linked from Costco works perfect in the bed rail with some t-slots from Amazon. Been on lots of trips including high speed runs in Death Valley and its still sturdy as can be. C4329505-E9DB-48C3-924F-EBF737D44175.jpg

    JUST TO BE CLEAR....

While I also use the Costco ABC extinguisher, they are NOT IDEAL. General ABC extinguishers use a chemical powder to put out fires and this powder can ruin all your electronics. It is recommended that we use CO2 instead, but they are 4-5x the $$

It's open in the bed - I'll search and see if I have access to some photos from work - if not I'll try and snap some tonight.
I use 2 large QuickFists to hold her in place

I hear you loud and clear on that. I've carried one in the past basically for others. If the truck is going up in flames, and everyone is out and safe... its going up in flames.

I have thought about putting one in my truck. It would not be to use on the truck, unless someone was stuck in it. It would be for camping, come across something burning, and other things like that. A 5lb or 10lb ABC extinguisher is what I would use, as that would cover most things.

Attached as it is in the bed rail, I don't believe it would clear a cover - attached a little lower on your molle you should have no issue.
I plan on adding the side molle to bring it a little lower, but also because I want to add my HiLift to the side as well.
