Rubbing noise in front left wheel well

Brand new ‘18 Platinum, Do not even have 5000 miles yet on the truck and the other day, this awful rubbing/grinding noise is coming from my front left wheel during a turn and when I’m moving. There is no noise when I am still. Could this already be a bad bearing?? I initially thought it was just ice buildup in my wheel well because it started when it was icy/snowy. But this is not the first time it has been through snow and ice with no issue. I will be taking it to the dealer so I can figure out what is wrong, but I would love the input. Thank you.

 

Can you tell on the plastic if it rubbed anywhere?

 

That was my initial thought, but I knocked the ice off and it does not look like there is any evidence of it rubbing. I have had my aftermarket wheels and tires since about 200 miles on the truck and haven’t heard anything like this.

 

It could be your heat shield. It may have gotten bent. Happened to my Tacoma a few yrs ago. Drove me crazy

 

You talking about the brake shield?

 

Heat shield? I’m not familiar with that. Where May that be?

 

I think he’s talking about dust shield behind the brake rotors. Sometimes if they are slightly bent, they will rub the rotor around turns.

 

That would be very odd that it got bent. I’ve been driving in snow an ice for the last 2 months with no issue and after this last frozen mix that moved through is when I noticed this.

 

It’s a pretty close tolerance so I would say if anything got thrown up into it it could happen. Couldn’t hurt to look into it.

Yea dust/heat shield. Very low tolerance. No need for Jax stands. Look behind the wheel and rotor and make sure it’s not rubbing. Hope it’s that simple for you

 

Also, more than once I've had a rock get stuck somewhere in my brakes. This happened recently, had a whirring noise. I was doing a bunch of stuff to the front suspension anyhow and while replacing the front rotors and a rock fell out. Problem solved.
