Anyway to beef up the rust prevention of the steel rack? Saw a youtube review about the rust issues but prefer the strength of steel vs the aluminum.

I asked because of your weather conditions. I have seen no signs of rust on my Steel Max, installed six months ago. I am inland San Diego (no coastal; little fog). We've had a lot of rain, but it is dry in between storms.

I think you could paint any scratches in the powder coat and prevent rust altogether.

It is nice! I ended up centering that rack, moved it backward a bit from what's shown in these pics, to center an RTT on the truck. The thing I like best about this rack is that I can move it from truck to truck. I plan to move it from my 3rd gen to my 1st soon. Decknit out with off-road equipment.

Hey @kb_voodoo -- sorry , late to the party here... love your rack man!

I am looking for a rack like this for my TRD Tundra - so love seeing those photos... also, my primary use is MTB adventures -- I was thinking about RTT on the rack and hitch bike carrier - but I like your setup with the bikes on the rack.

I was wondering if a front wheel on rack would work - something like the Thule or 1-up racks?

Funny you should ask. The folks at 1UPUSA contacted us and asked for one of our Outboard Bike Mounts to test on their roof rack.

They have confirmed that it can be mounted. They even sent us one of their roof racks to test, but we've been so busy lately that we haven't even had time to take it out of the box yet.

    That's awesome! Too funny.

OK - a couple more questions...

1 - regarding the tonneau cover brackets, I think I saw somewhere you said they add about 2.5" to the overall height. So the 18" rack will be 20.5" high, correct? Is that high enough to clear the cab? I am thinking about the hard-shell RTT - but they are 80" long, so it would need to extend over the cab some.

2 - normal weekends I use a tailgate pad to carry bikes to the local trails -- with the 18" rack and tonneau bracket, do you think I can still get bikes over the tailgate - with the dropper post down? It's more about getting the rear wheel up over the tailgate and under the rails of the rack. For this reason, I was thinking about the 46" rack instead of the 58" rack. Thoughts? I expect the 46" rack would make the 80" long hard-shell RTT a no-go.

    1) Yes, they add 2.5" the the height. You will have to measure your truck to make sure 20.5" is tall enough.

    2) Not sure how your bikes will fit, so measure carefully, but I think the 46" would be too short for you.

Has anyone tried the universal rack in combination with the Diamondback cover? Seems like it would work, though the storage bin might not work with it.

Yes, our racks work with Diamondback covers, it's a very popular combination.

I have the Max Modular 18" (Steel/Aluminum) Rack over a Diamondback and RTT. Have had it for apprx 6 months now, and it seems to be holding. The only issue i had was I needed wider brackets for the cab side of the bed.

Any pics? I'm curious to see how the front panel opens and how much access to the bed you get.

Does anyone on here have any pictures of a rack with a roll up hard cover like the Truxedo Sentry? I am trying to decide between the 14" rack and the URTC, I know the rack will be able to roll all the way up with the URTC but don't know about the 14" rack system. I am trying to still be able to roll it all the way up if possible, thanks!

You can’t open the Diamondback once the rack is in place.

I'm referring the the universal rack with straight sides. Not the model with the angled sides.

First post. Glad I found ran into this site.

Any pictures with a cargo rack, Baja Rack (mega mule), Yakima, Thule, etc attached to the Max Modular?
Can those racks be attached? If yes, what is needed? Thanks.
