I'm had my fair share of RC toys... I have a small 6 inch quad copter I biz around every once in a while. Was really into drifting 1/10th scale during college.. now my brother got me into crawling:) it's alot of fun and really challenging. Not to mention u don't need a track to drive at! I'm still learning the ropes, but all in good time I'll get better.

Actually saw them in action at Apollo Field in Woodley Park, Van Nuys. F-16's, F-4's, F-18's. Totally kickass. Lived there 17 yrs. One guy had a hummer with a F-16 mounted in the back. I would take my kids there 3 or four times a week. Lot of rich folks in San Fernando Valley. Studio types. If you look close Apollo Field is under flight path of Van Nuys Airport. Busiest private/commercial airport on the planet.

Exactly the real thing only smaller scale. I have an extensive baseball/football/basketball card collection and vintage Star Wars collection. I recently traded most of my Barry Bonds rare cards to my friend Kevin who still lives in Van Nuys. He still thinks B Bonds is great. Typical Giants fan (they still suck, go Dodgers). In return I got a vintage mid 70's 72" RC glider w/servos, controller new in box and a vintage mid 70's large scale Air Force trainer prop kit w/servo's, controller from Kevin. My winter project. Took both kits to Colpar Hobby Shop. Argueably the best in the country. They were stunned. Colpar is going to set me up with state of the art controllers/servo's. Not cheap. http://www.colpar.com/

Futaba is still the top one still on controllers. Amazing what they have done since I got out. Maybe next year.

I'll prob get a decent prerunner to drive around with my son in the dirt but that's about it. Not into playing with them with other adults.

Def getting a drone at some point too.

My vintage controllers and servos are Futaba.. They are brand new. (Well, never used) I just need to upgrade to this century's Futaba's.

Have a 4yo that wants a RC truck for Christmas. Thinking something that would drive in the grass. Probably best to get two so I can drive with him vs just watching. Thoughts on what to get? Don't want to spend too much on two at this point. Maybe $150 total.

    Awesome!

It's actually pretty hard and challenging. Glad to see others doing it.

Funny, we take a RC rock crawler on Moab trips for long waits or trail repairs. Have fun while you wait.

I'm in the same boat. Once he gets older I want to get he and I both a nice RC truck. @Randy Morton had some great info in another thread. I have some time to plan yet, and for new stuff to come out but the Tracks Slash 2wd with the burshless motor seems to be a good pick.

Tough to get 2 trucks for only 150... that's kinda cheap.... I'd maybe get 1 nicer one. Just like every hobby, it gets expensive fast and u get what u pay for.

Find a local hobby shop and see if they have any used trucks on consignment. If that fails, check Craigslist. Either way, try before you buy.

i used to be big into rc rock crawling. i custom built my truck and put in over $1k into it. however, its now in a box in my garage.

i still have a bunch of videos up on the rc crawler website. you can search for my posts there:
    http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/members/sync-6135.htm
or I can post some if anyone is interested.

    here is my initial build:

then I went to aluminum knuckles:

Just a few, more to come
Wife and I have a couple Axial Bomber cars, lots of fun. Hers is mostly stock, mine is still close to stock but I tend to break something every once in a while and then upgrade the parts.
So far on mine I swapped on aluminum body panels and ditched the plastic cockpit piece with the fake drivers to make working on it easier...
Thought I stripped the Spur gear... turned out the motor worked its way loose and was deflecting on the gear. Tightened and have been running as is, do have an aluminum replacement spur on hand when it does go.
Broke a steering servo horn and replaced both mine and my wife's with the billet ones from Axial.
Broke a steering servo, replaced with another stock one that didnt even last the next battery. @jberry813 took care of that one for me. lol
Replaced second stock servo with an upgraded Savox servo
Also replaced all links (upper/lower front suspension, rear upper links, and all steering links) with Stainless steel links for a bit more strength.

Next I foresee beefing the axles up a bit, I can see them maybe being the next thing to snap.

I bought two of the Redcat Racing Everest-10 1/10 Scale Crawlers from Toytec Lifts or me and my son to use. They go slow so there isn't any worry of a young kid destroying it. Pretty fun to pick a nice technical path over rocks and see if you can make it without rolling over. Fun toy to bring on a camping trip.

No but this is on my short list of things I want to get into when I get some time. I was into RC cars a little bit back in the day but I really like scale realism and that wasn't an option back then unless you had some mad crazy scratch building skills but today you can do some really cool stuff with mostly off the shelf parts...
