Hello Tundras.com, new member here. When I got my Tundra back in August it was a few firsts for me (first truck and first Toyota). So far I am really loving it. For my first mod, I purchased a Low Range Offroad 3/1 lift/level kit with the intent of installing it myself. Then I came to my senses and figured it would probably be safer and easier to have it professionally installed.

The shop did the install today, but highly recommended upgraded UCAs to go along with this lift kit since it has maxed out the range of travel. I am thinking of just biting the bullet and doing it.

My question is, for those of you who have lifted, is this something you would recommend also?

    Thanks for any feedback.

That was one of my questions that I had myself. I noticed that a good amount of people were saying that it would be fine with the stock UCA's so I just stayed with the stock ones.

Totally off topic, but how do you like those Spyder headlights? and did you need anything else besides the headlights for them to work?

I love them. Nope, nothing else necessary. I installed an HID kit with them to get better light output, but that was just personal choice.

I’m running the Low range kit for the front but I did a Coachbuilder +3 shackle for the rear instead of the block. Kept the stock UCA’s and when I had it aligned they got it well within spec and still had room to go so I’d say you should be good. From my research, the aftermarket UCAs offer more room for alignments but overall on a 3/1 if it aligns well, then the UCAs are optional and not a necessity.

IMG_20190223_164643.jpg IMG_20190221_174017.jpg Toytec 3/1 coilovers with AM UCA. If you go with front spacers, you don't increase the travel so stock UCA are (probaply) fine. If you go with coilovers, you increase the amount of travel articulation of the front end so UCA's are beneficial as they allow a greater range of travel and most have some positive caster built in to compensate for larger tire/wheel combos. 35/12.50X17 on ICONS

Thanks Pete. In hindsight, I am thinking I should have just went with the ToyTec kit, but I saw a lot of positive reviews and experiences with the LRO kit, and it was much cheaper. I don't really off-road, so hopefully the LRO install will be just fine.

I lifted my truck up front to 3" utilizing Bilstein 5100 leveling shocks and @BOSS4x4s shims. My alignment is maxed out. I just purchased SPC UCAs from @BOSS4x4s to combat this problem. Seems like some owners don't have the problem, but I do.

You will be fine with this. I have the same thing. No issues so far. Have 18k on my 2018 Limited.

My UCA’s were maxed with my 3/2 before I removed it. Then they were maxed even more with my 4/3 coilover lift. Got SPC UCA’s and everything is fine.

I wish I wouldn't have come across this forum! Was all set to go with LRO but you have plenty saying no. But ones that do run the kit love it and don't have any problems. I think though I'm going with the Toytec / Eibach coilovers. I'm hoping to get away without new UCAs. But after reading this now I'm rethinking. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Anyone know of any post in this forum or other areas that Toyota owners post items to sell? Wouldn't mind coming across a really great deal on UCAs.

Honestly on my bracket left and for what I do with my truck just street ride I would be wasting a bunch of money on UCa's rough country 6" lift on my truck and it aligns just fine without

I was in the same boat as you. I thought I wouldn't need UCAs either after reading posts from people on this forum. But it ends up I do. I should have put them on when I lifted the front to the top setting on my 5100s. They are on the way, albeit delayed by the "Bomb Cyclone", and will be here early next week.

I found that all level lifts or anything other then a bracket lift needs new uca's because their is not extended knuckles. I could be wrong but it makes sense to me.

In my experience, 3 Tundras, many will align properly without aftermarket UCA's. However, if you do plan on even moderate off road travel, you limit the full travel if you keep the stock UCA's. This is due to the additional suspension articulation afforded by the design of all of the notable aftermarket UCA's. If you are just installing a spacer lift, the AM UCA is only needed for alignment purposes (if you can't get within specs) as you do not gain any additional suspension travel capability with a spacer, just spring preload.
