With a lot of research on this forum, I decided to take the plunge and purchased a Genesis Offroad dual battery kit, along with a pair of Odyssey Batteries. This is the beginning of some electrical upgrades to come later.

After purchase, shipping was fast and the unit was packed with enough protection to withstand even the shipping gorillas. Customer service was outstanding. I emailed Shane a couple of questions post purchase, pre installation, and he was quick to send a response which was very much appreciated.

I have a 2019 Crewmax Platinum. This truck came with the LED headlights already. I had the dealership swap out for the TRD Pro blacked out headlights even before I picked up the truck. So having the relocation brackets included with this kit was very much a necessity.

I did the installation Saturday. Even though the instructions are very clear and complete, I ran into a couple issues. I'm not sure if these are unique to the 18-19 trucks or not, but I'm guessing the 14-17 are a bit different.

Complete Installation. You can see the unit sits crooked in the battery spot because of the issues I ran into.

I had to trim the fuse box front mounting tab closest to the fender. Without trimming, the battery was hitting the mounting tab and wouldn't slide into the tray all the way.

Fuse box. The side closest to the engine slid back just fine, as indicated by the blue line. The side near the fender wouldn't slide back. I finally figured out why.

ABS unit sits behind the fuse box.

There's a protrusion on the back of the fuse box where the wire harness routes towards the cab. This plastic tube hits the ABS unit and won't let the fuse box slide back any further on the fender side.

Unit sits crooked in the space, but it does fit. My OCD may get the better of me somewhere down the line.

So my question - Anyone else install this unit on a 18-19 crewmax with LED headlights and have it fit perfectly straight, and not have to do any trimming of the mounting point on the fuse box? Wondering if its just me. Thanks

Did you receive the new style kit that moves the fuse box back 1/2".. Has Genesis had anything to say about this?

Yes. New style kit with the mounting adapters to move the fuse box. I haven’t contacted Shane yet. I’m gonna dig into it again tomorrow morning and see if there’s something I was doing wrong to cause that protrusion to hit the abs unit.

I have done this! No, it does not sit perfectly straight and yes i did have to trim one of the plastic pieces on the fuse box. I may be mistaken but im sure it was that way in my directions.

I emailed Shane and got a very quick response. Customer service with this guy is top notch. He said::

"It’s ok, the fuse box just needs to move back as far as it can. Once it gets to the ABS components, that’s as far as it can go. The fuse box and the battery tray may not sit perfectly straight in there, but that’s ok. If you’re anything like me, that may set your OCD on fire, but just remember the goal is to get 2 batteries to fit in the space available. The tray will most likely be turned a little bit out of perpendicular from the fender, just gotta work with the space we have. It all just needs to go back just a little bit so we clear the headlights.

I hope this helps! Please feel free to give me a call if you’d like to talk through it. I’m available for a FaceTime video chat if that would be helpful!"

So, I'm gonna look at it again tomorrow when I go to install the g-screen. Overall I'm very happy with the product. I was just a little confused because I couldn't get mine to line up exactly like the pictures in the instructions. As long as the product works, I can probably live with a little crooked battery tray. Everything's been working as promised all week. Well worth the price and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

No problem. I had hell with the proper way to do the relocation. Ended up installing twice cause i did it wrong the 1st time. It truly is a pretty badass setup. I was pleased with it, even though its crooked.

Installed in 2018 platinum, same thing. Cramming 5lbs of in a 3lb bag.

The end goal is the additional capacity and upgraded features. Having it at an angle is the compromise.

Thanks man. I dug into this yesterday and pulled the whole thing out. No way to make the fuse box go back further on the fender side unless you cut off that protrusion. That would require the entire removal of the fuse box. Not something i'm willing to do. So, finished installing the wiring hook up for my switch pros and reinstalled the whole thing.

Still an excellent product and well thought out. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. And Shane is a great guy with mad customer service. All in all very happy with the fact that ill have an aux battery without having to fab up a special mount elsewhere on the truck.

I installed mine a few weeks ago. I’ll look again, but pretty sure mine sits straight. It’s flush with the aux battery next to the front drivers side corner. My fuse box is definitely not straight. It’s back further on passenger side because of the issue you mentioned. I did not have to trim it though.

Also, I can’t open the fuse box without removing the tray. The lip of the tray goes over mine.

I guess it’s a little crooked. I just lined up the front most part where the aux battery would fit. Wanted to have it closer to the fender than the engine.

Everything written here I'll also chime in to validate.

Similar issues were met and overcome and Shane is definitely quick and great on his responses. Once we finaggled some things and cut an extra tab off the fuse box, we got things in slightly angled but mission accomplished.

To anyone who has installed the Genesis dual battery setup on a 2018+ Tundra with LED headlights: Can you truly not open up the fusebox because the tray blocks it?

Having dual battery sounds awesome, but not being able to get to the fuses under the fusebox without removing the batteries and tray is a dealbreaker. Is there an easy work-around?

With the way the tray sits there isn’t enough room. It already comes with brackets to move the fuse box back an inch or so, but it has a lip that goes over the box.

But in the 8 years I had my 2010 and 1 year I’ve had my 2018, I have needed in that fuse box a total of 0 times.

You can get it open, but it does require a little bit of finesse when doing so after this modification. I've had a few Tundras as I've made projects out of them and thankfully access or need to the fuse box has always been next to none. So I'd agree with @timsp8 but yeah if you ever did NEED to get in there, it's possible just will require like I said a bit of finesse in doing so.

i am receiving my demo unit tomorrow from Genesis, and from looking at the kit in person at OE West, and speaking with them about the brackets to move the fuse box back, it doesnt look like the updated kit will have a terrible time with access to the fuse box. I am on the fence because of all my wiring currently in the truck, but will tackle it, as I think the benefits outweigh the tight engine space it creates.

I have it installed in my 2018 platinum. The headlights make it tighter, but it fits.

Tried installing tonight, went with the optima Group 25 red top battery. They would not fit into the tray.. Now I need to find out what the options are since I think I am now stuck with 2 new optima batteries....

Believe they recommend Odyssey as their battery group.

It's what I went with as well.

    Yes
They also state group 25 battery. I think the way optima makes their base, is causing the fitting issue, not genesis’ tray.

My 2(or 3) cents to throw in. Although I have a 17 tundra, and mine fit well, I will mention a few things if you are a hard core 4 wheeling guy.. like Baja hard core. ( Rough and fast). After a few runs to Baja to watch/chase a race team, and a trip to the king of hammers race and then running the Mohave trail, I started hearing a squeak on my way home from the trail. Annoying as all get out. I couldn't find the issue.. looked at fenders, steps, shook coolant parts. And then I put my hand on the battery tops and ..squeak. I ended up taking the whole bracket out to find the metal of the truck had given out and the bracket feet had broken through the base of the truck. The bracket was perfect.. didn't even bend.. but somehow the bracket had gotten loose.. shook and busted up the mounting area of the truck. I ended up welding everything back up. Took the fender molding out to get underneath the battery area.. then drilled holes through.. used big ass fender washers and grade 8 bolts.. lock nuts and secured that mother down. So it won't go anywhere again. So if you use your tundra like a trophy truck.. pay attention to those little inserts you attach the bracket to the truck with.. they may not hold up.

I put two yellow tops in mine. Had to modify the tie down bracket for clearance on top.

    Finally installed last weekend
A little messy until I shorten the winch power lines.
Overall a very well made and engineered kit.
Even though it is tight and a little off kilter, well worth the benefits of dual battery support!

Edit: I purchased the Genesis kit June 2019, and installed it August 2019, so it's been in service for around 10 months. Also, one of the two Odyssey batteries failed and I had to send it in for a replacement (and pay like $50 shipping).

I had the same experience, except I don't do any hardcore wheeling. I drive old-man slow on old forest service roads and do some really bumpy, rocky stuff ... but nothing at speed, and nothing that facilitates a winch / locker / etc. And my Genesis tray broke right through the underlying truck metal:

I think the problem is that the Genesis tray focuses 110 pounds of battery weight over four little feet, instead of having that weight spread out flat across the entire supporting surface. The result is shown in the picture above, where you can see one of the tray feet has sheered off and is still bolted to the Genesis-supplied riv-nut, one tray foot punched all the way through, and the mount points of the other two tray feet have cracked the sheet metal surrounding their riv-nuts.

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do at this point. One idea is to have a welding shop reinforce the damaged area with a nice flat piece of beefy sheet stock, drill new mounting holes in it, cut the four legs off of the Genesis mounting tray so that it sits flat, and then bolt it on with big bolts.

Another idea is to try to warranty a fresh new Genesis tray, clean it up and sell the entire thing, and simplify my setup with a single Group 27F Northstar battery. For running my super-efficient ARB fridge, some LED lights, and a water pump, and never camping for more than a day or two in a spot before driving to the next one, I think the Genesis setup might be overkill.

Yikes. Sorry this happened to you. I bought this kit a couple of years ago. I remember reading the instructions and coming to the conclusion that this kit was not very well thought out - had to move the fuse box back to fit and also the fuse box wasn’t properly secured after the move. I immediately sent it back for a refund. They were great to deal with.
