So I'm guessing the answer to the actual question is no, nobody has ever changed the gears in the differential for better fuel mileage

So I don't really actually see a question... moreso you're anticipating our answer to your question of "Has anyone regeared taller for better gas mileage"? lol, anyways...

In the 07+ you dont have any options for it really, 4.30(stock) and 4.88 aftermarket are about all I know of.
If you're talking 1st gen Tundra there may be some taller gears out there, but I'm not sure it would help anyways. Might drop the engine too low in the RPM range and drop out of the power band causing it to hunt between gears or unlock the torque converter and therefore hurt mpg's.
For the cost, I honestly dont see any real benefit to even try to regear taller. You'd probably spend a lot more money swapping gears then you would save over the years from very slight MPG improvement.

Didn't the non- tow package Tundras have 4.10 gears?

Personally, unless you get a screaming deal on a set of gears, master install kits, and do the gear setup yourself, you will never recoup the money spent on this.

Seriously, if it bothers you this much, go get a Eco-diesel Ram, D-max Chevy Colorado or something like that.

It's because he posted another thread on this subject and everyone gave him the same response: "why would you want to regear it?"

I would get a Camry or Corolla before a Prius, but I get your point.

I'm going to regear soon but not for MPG (it'll actually worsen).
