So the milkshake is when the trans cooler and radiator leak into one another?

Coolant gets into transmission is my understanding. It's not always a death sentence though.

Edit- I guess it could go both ways? I'm not clear on what causes it though. Hopefully someone will explain.

hahaha :p I figured it must've been a typo, then I saw the pic and thought maybe it actually was! Still a bit bigger than a 285/75 though. Looks nice and beefy. Nice tire/wheel choice!

Been decades but as I fuzzy recall, the two fluids share a cooler unit up front. Internally it rots & you get the two separate fluid pathways violated allowing the fluids to cross into each other. System may show no external leaks, but internally your cooler is leaking between the two pathways = milkshake.

It's one of those systems you are best to preventatively replace for just this reason. In theory keeping up with fluids extends the life, but any mechanical item is only as good as the guys day who assembled it. :eek2:

Thanks. So far I'm loving the tires for 16 inch wheels, it's a great size. Plus it makes my tires ever so slightly larger than my friend's white 01 on 285s. #Winning.

Anyone here seen my signature at the bottom? Its a tribute to the 3rd Gen Tundra guys with their ‘builds’ that are usually comprised of them changing light bulbs (and blowing fuses). Or, putting on a red rear sway bar backwards. Hahaha

In all seriousness (not really), I’m thinking about doing a ‘build’ section and wondering what to call it?

    Hand Model Bod ‘Mod’
    Right Turn Only ‘Build’
Really Really Really Need Help ‘Build’

    Please help!

Circled below is the trans cooler correct? The Denso replacement I'm looking at claims to include "transmission oil cooler" so I guess I'll be replacing both.

Honestly I've only been under the hood to verify fluids since I got the truck - the frigid & ice won't stop.

But, you'd have a/c, radiator & trans & trans will be w/ radiator & trans will be smallest, so I'd guess yes.

Yep. That's the Plan Stan. It honestly looks pretty easy(it always does online ). But none of the videos seem to document replacing the trans oil cooler. But yes, I'm doing the radiator, serpentine belt, thermostat and seal myself. The hardest part seems to be working around/removing the fan shroud.

I was planning to order the parts this month but had this conversation with my wife: Her "I want to go to Europe". Me "I want to lift my Truck and order some parts".

Guess who's going to Europe? :spending:

You definately should have a build thread. They're fun.

"Beef up your truck" is the first title that comes to mind quoted from this old gem. Might name a good build name.

I noticed your signature and chuckled at it. Well done. I like Nudrat's idea. Dexterity Build. You could also pay homage to your "doink". I notice you say you're from St. Barts but I'm guessing that's a joke? You really live in the Caribbean? You could spin something off that if so.

The mechanics kept my OEM original transmission cooler when they replaced the radiator 4 years ago.

So far so good. You may not need it.

PHM already did my job. I forget to take pictures during projects. Put the earbuds in and zone out. I’ll have some mpg numbers for stock, after the lift and after the injectors. I didn’t buy them to improve mpg’s but I dropped down to 13.5 after the lift so I wouldn’t be opposed to gaining some back. I’m hoping for a little more power at highway speeds. Time will tell.

Did a quick calculation today and with towing a little this week a rough early estimate is coming in at 13.5mpg. Not bad for some towing, but still have some more gas to burn.

Main thing with the injector job is to to keep track of all your washers around the 17mm banjo bolts and the 22mm driver side pulsator. They are easy to lose. Believe it or not, I had to use a cheater pipe over my 3/8” ratchet to break those thread locks on the 17mm banjos.

Lube all o-rings on the injectors. Even lube the o-ring on the passenger side rail gas regulator/pulsator when you go to reinsert it.

Just take your time and steady as she goes and it should take about 5 hours. 3 for the driver side as there is more stuff in the way. 2 max on the passenger (way easier side).

Disconnect battery before starting the job.

I saw it and had a giggle. I've been thinking about doing an actual write up on everything I've done and posting it in this section for future reference. I'm hoping to get to the 13we to 13wl conversion done this weekend. That and the rest of the front brakes and bleed em all out.
