I parked my truck for about 45 min and when I got back and started driving and it now makes a really awful noise when I turn left only and it sounds almost like a grinding noise. Any ideas of what it might be?[IMG]

Sounds like a classic CV joint failure.

If it is a CV, its usually not that bad of a job.

I'm glad to hear that! This truck means a lot to me and I want to keep it around as long as I can. :)

Most recommend sticking with OEM CVs. Don't buy aftermarket if you plan on keeping the truck.

Second this, unless you are comfortable doing this chore regularly, then you can opt for a CV from your local parts store with a lifetime warranty. If you don't have to worry about it for a long time spend the money and go OEM.

I was able to find the noise Yesterday, it tuned out some of the underbody protection came to lose must have hit some snow or something too hard as we got over a foot last week. It fell off in a way that it hit the tire only when turning left. Some new bolts and washers fixed it. just couldn't see it in the dark once I got home from work.

Fixes like this make me feel so good inside. Fearing the worst and thinking you'll have to spend time and money on something, all to find it's some plastic covering that let loose will lift anyone's mood.

Yup. A few years back I engaged 4wd on my Tacoma on a wintery drive home from work, only to be greeted my a horrific grinding / rumbling noise from directly below me. It was fine last time I’d used 4wd, and as I driving home in 2wd I was trying to figure out why my transfer case took a poop on me suddenly and without warning.

I got home, pulled it in the shop to investigate more, and found a 3’ long willow branch lodged between the front driveshaft, the floorboard, and the exhaust. I’m still not sure if I’d picked it up weeks before when playing in the wild, or if my co-worker tried to be funny.

Because v8 ran over a Smurf one time and got blue all under his chasis. No noises though. Just blue stains.
