Tundra DRL/Blinker issue

Hey guys, new to the forum. I installed CK socket LED bulbs in my 2010 tundra with the 6 ohm - 50w resistor. With the headlights off, the DRL's and turn signals work wonderfully. When the headlights are switched on the DRL's are still illuminated, but the turn signals no longer flash. I was curious to see if anyone else has had this issue before, and what the fox would be. last I checked, my thread doesn't demand answers. I'm not insisting that everyone stop what they are doing to find a solution. However, I believe that SOMEBODY has come across this issue in the past that would have a simple solution. I wouldn't have spent the time to sign up for a forum if I weren't prepared to help others as well.

I think you have the resistors on the wrong wires. You have to make sure they are on the directional wires and not the DRL wires... There are different wires coming out of the back of that bulb.

 

@650h1 , I soldered the resistor in parellel with the flasher wire (pink) and the ground (white/black). I have another wire (purple) for the DRL's. I assumed that the sole purpose of the resistor was fix the hyper-flash problem.

 

It is. Did you try reversing the polarity of the resistor?

 

That shouldn't make a difference, resistors are polarity independent. @650h1

Yes, fuses are just fine. @650h1 I have a hunch that it has something to do with the DRL's. Obviously as you know, with the incandescent bulbs, they change in brightness when the headlights are on and off. I feel like this has something to do with it

 

Yeah but that's just based on the amount of power they're getting from the truck... It doesn't make sense that the blinkers wouldn't work...

 

Yea dude it's weird, blinkers work without headlights. Switch on headlights, blinkers no longer work. DRL's stay consistent. Very strange. All of the videos pertaining to LED DRL's are pretty cut and dry and mention nothing of this issue. @650h1

 

The 6ohm is a 25 watt resistor, which is the VLR6. You need the VLR3 which is the 3ohm 50 watt resistor designed for 2 incandescent bulbs not 1.

My resistors that are installed are printed "6omh 50watt". You're telling me that I need a "3omh 50watt" resistor? @bandit

I did, can you better explain why these would work better than my current resistors? I'm honestly not understanding.

 

Really quick before I answer that, do you have the lights with the ballasts built in or separate? Could you add a link to exactly which lights you have?

 

The 6 OHM is the equivalent load of 1 bulb. So if you replace 1 set of bulbs (the front OR rear bulbs) you will need to install 2 resistors (one for each side). The 3 OHM is the equivalent load of 2 bulbs. If you replace your front AND rear bulbs (4 bulbs total) you can use use two 3 OHM resistors. Also, you need to mount the resistors in the rear. The tundra is known for engine bay heat causing them to go hay wire.

They are GTR 3157 CK style LED bulbs. They are individual bulbs, no ballasts. I ordered resistors listed above in previous comments.

Yes that makes sense. And I did install two resistors total. One for the left side and one for the right side ( front only )

 

So get two 3 ohm 50w resistors and installed them in the rear? That should fix the issue?

 

I don't think you need to install the resistors in the rear - I have VLED DRL Switchbacks that work just fine with 2x 6ohm 50w resistors mounted on the vehicle frame in the engine bay.

If wiring is correct I would agree with you that there is probably an issue with the LEDs themselves.

He's a gen2 guy not a gen3 guy. This is the main issue with the Gen2's.
