OEM deck rail system with plastic bed-liner ?

Hey everyone. I have an oem plastic bed-liner that came with my truck new. I want to keep it for hauling firewood and gravel etc. I want to install a deck rail system and was wondering if anyone here has done it. I saw a you-tube / toyota accessories video showing the rail system with a bed liner, but was curious about hole drilling locations through the bed liner etc. Anyone attempted this one ? Thanks in advance............John

 

i think you need an adapter and need to cut the plastic liner. I just order the rails kit and will get my bed line-x then rail kit installed.
I also have the oem plastic bed liner right now with couple cracks so upgrading everything at once.

 

My Tundra had the OEM plastic bedliner with the optional deck rails when I bought it. The bed liner was actually pre-drilled , ie: had pre-existing holes for the deck rails if I remember correctly. I could be mistaken. Do you have any holes near the top of your bedliner where there deck rails would go?

 

Yeah. No adapters required. If the liner isn't pre-drilled, just find the bolt holes and poke through the plastic.

I had already looked and no pre-drilled holes or dimples in the bed liner. I may need to get the oem rail, hold it up and mark the plastic liner, and maybe use a small hole saw or uni-bit to oversize the hole some. Just dont want to land straight on the tapped hole in the bed and possibly strip it or miss and drill into the bed some. I may have to get it close and pull the liner away from the bed to do the final drilling. Anyone have suggestions to get the best deal on the deck rail system ? Should I go OEM or aftermarket copy cat ? Thanks much.........

 

Yeah that sucks a little. Mine was already in, so no way to know for sure about the liner. Why not call your local dealer and ask them how they do it? A you really have to do (I think) is to locate each end holes and attach the rails and then tap thru the remaining holes thru the liner??

 

That's exactly what I did. It also help prevent the bedliner from shifting in the bed.

 

There are two Berliners: with or without deck rail system. The without goes all the way up to the top of the bed. The one for deck rail looks the same except it looks more like someone took a hacksaw to cut off the top. there are no predeilled holes. I think Toyota has a Z bracket to clamp the front to the head of the bed. The aftermarket Pendaliner (same manufacturer for Toyota) has predrilled holes that u screw into the sheet metal. Either brands, the deck rail just sits above the Berliner and it looks gappy. It's like an afterthought! Looks homemade. But hey, at least it's done protection. I've seen the spry ins and they look really good and natural fit.

 

How would this work with an OEM spray in bed liner that does not have threaded holes exposed? Is there some kind of mounting bracket that needs to be ordered, or do I need to drill where the holes should be? I didn't check before purchasing the bed rails (already searched)..

I think you will need to cut, as they are two different bedliners (one fitted for rails, one without). My limited by error came without the rails but had the drop in liner. They needed to pull out the liner and put another one in that was fitted to accommodate rails.

Old thread I know. but just wanted to suggest a technique for "marking" the existing plastic liner so you know where to cut the plastic. Just peel back the liner and screw a stud into each mounting hole. Then "tap" the inside of the liner with sufficient force to leave a mark on the bed side of the liner. Then just remove the studs, drill a hole in the liner at each mark, and mount the rails.
