I thought you could re use one stock screw and add one self tapping

 

You can, just hard to get to because of windshield angle

 

Very very clean. It's not much higher volume but sound quality is substantially better. Once amp goes in life will be perfect

 

I figured it would be much louder, but good to hear!

Good to hear (no pun intended)! The loudness got boosted with my Android Tesla HU, but it wasn't clean. Thanks for the pic and vid ups, very helpful.

So to be clear, I have nonJBL, I currently have 3 dash speakers, 2 front door mids, and 2 back door mids and tweeters. I tap into all the current speaker wires with whatever method necessary. And I need to splice the sail tweeters into the 2 front door mids or is there already wiring behind there? (like the GPS antenna we all have even though not all Tundras come with nav).

 

Being non JBL I'm not sure about tweeter wires already being there. It would just be as easy to tap into Mids. The speaker itself (mid) comes with a metal harness to connect to stock harness.

As for dash speakers you will have to tap in but my videos are posted for those.

 

1/2 power less then the stocks.

 

Even with the impedance difference they are equally as loud with much cleaner sound. Once the DSR1 And amp come it will be a new world

 

Great! So it'll be like my fave headphones inside the house, open back Sennheiser HD598's, low impedance, clean clear soundstage.

 

Thanks for this info guys! It’s been super helpful in confirming I made the right choice to pay someone to install these next week. If you want me to I can post a sticky on the process. So far the steps have been;

-schedule install

I expect the rest of the steps will be;

-pay ‘my guy’
-listen to banging music and show all the other parents in the daycare pick up line how cool I am

I am still contemplating if I need new sunglasses and a backwards hat to finish things off. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

 

That's great, I'm glad they sound good.

I think it defeated the purpose of the original GB, if I wanted a full system I would have just purchased the complete thing from tech12volts initially.

 

There is that option but the group buys have now given us the full system at a considerably lower total cost.

You won't be "banging" until you get the amp though so don't go expecting these speakers to fix the volume problem because they don't. I'd argue that db level is the same.

After market HU and 4 channel amp ready to go got the GB sub hooked up amp and really does hit hard, more than I expected

I forgot you have the Kenwood. Almost went that route but couldn't live with the meta kit. For some reason it bothers me and I wish it didn't bc I want apple car play

 

Have you seen others with it? I was gonna order another one and see if it lined up an better. Gonna have audio guy try to trim connections behind and see if it lines up better

The calls shutting it down was the nail in the coffin for me

 

I ordered the kit before the amp group buy to decide Kenwood vs DSR1. I returned it bc it didn't match well enough

 

My 3.5 didnt come with a capacitor. is this it already soldered on?

 

I just used a stubby screwdriver and did it by hand. Not too bad

Thanks got it. I installed one then found them. I wonder what they do cuz its sounded okay without it lol.
Also I used some of the extra wire from the center tweeters, which have female spade connectors on them to wire the corner speaker in. Worked out well cuz I didn't have enough females spades on hand.

I ended up getting all 3 dash speakers installed tonight in about an hour after work. They are definitely quieter but the sound in so much more crisp and clear.
I cant wait to do the door speakers next. Maybe tomorrow.

 

Its supposed to work like a crossover. Do you have a pop when you turn your ignition on? Also just to check, you made sure and put postive wire on the FATTER spade on the back of 3.5 correct? On those infinitys the fat spade is the positive terminal

 

If the new dash speakers are definitely quieter, how much of an impact should we expect from the amp?
