What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Why? No seriously, why are so many trying to get around the system?
Other than having to replace 1 bad sensor when I bought the Pius & the occasional it's wicked cold low pressure light, I've found the TPM System to be invisible.
I had added an aftermarket TPMS to my car back in the mid '90's & that let me know twice of rapidly deflating tires before I felt them going flat.

So why the no-loving? airing down for a trail?

 

Call Toytech or Wheelers. Both know first gens well and both have great service. I have bought from both places and was happy with them.

I cleaned my truck out today, at least the cab. The bed will wait for tomorrow.

 

A Canadian told me the official emergency ice scraper of choice is any credit card.

I had to use the Tundra for a couple of days w/ this mess.

 

OEM thermostat and gasket, $41 at my local dealership, didn’t even check pricing online.
Job was maybe 20 minutes. It is super easy.

 

Hey Erik. They can be adjusted after the install. It's pretty easy too. They give you two specific collar wrenches and you loosen the bottom and move the top until you've hit your desired lift. You have to hold one while initially separating the two, and again to tighten it once your done.

They come set at 2.5", they say 1/4" of threads translates to a 1/2" of lift.
- I found a flathead screwdriver with a 1/4" tip and moved the upper collar up until it fit between. Then snugged the bottom collar up.

 

I have no sensors installed. I bought rims off CL and added new tires. I air down for trails infrequently. And yet the stupid TPMS light is there flashing. I'm sure the original rims had them but they're long gone. At this point I just want it off. So no. No loving. Comprende?

 

Yes, old credit cards (or gas, grocery, library). And when you've got a few minutes to start the truck and get the defroster going, pour cool water over the windshield. This will immediately remove the ice (but a soft sheen of soft, sludgy ice will form unless you've got the defroster on warm). I never understand why people spend 20 minutes scraping the entire windshield, instead of 5 minutes filling and carting a pan of cool water, pour it across the top, then slide off the thin slush that forms, and be done.

@because_v8 good to know. Seems a lot of companies online don't understand or care about how to deal with customers.

@FirstGenVol Hope you get the kit you're after. The SPC UCAs look really good to me.

 

I've tried to find a comparable package on Wheeler's website that includes front rollovers, rear shocks, and the add a leaf for a similar price. They don't sell anything unless I just missed it. Looks like I'll be calling Toytech.

 

This is what I’ve been reading.

So this is my second Synthetic oil change and I’ll be observing things until the next change in 3k miles at which point the leak ‘fixes’ itself or she gets switched back to Syn Blend. Or, I just ignore the leak as its very slow. Should know more by late spring.

 

You thought about trying to find some used Tundra front coils at a junkyard or online? That will open up a less expensive option in the 5100’s.

Message toytec and wheelers off road on here before you buy and they will usually hook you up as both are active vendors here.

 

I used high mileage syn blend when I changed my oil during the valve cover fiasco. Hasn't leaked yet. Well, it's only been driven twice and has been on jack stands. I guess we'll see once I get it put back together.

 

Bit too much of a drive for that. Lol

Eh, don't junkyards typically make you remove the part from the vehicle yourself? I'm not about to de-spring a coilover. I don't have the tools nor the skills. Also, I'm shooting for some offroad capability. That's not where the 5100's excel from what I've read.

 

NO - it's rare to find a place that will let you in the yard anymore. Mostly you order online & they will have their guy pull the part & ship it to you, if it isn't already pulled & on a parts rack.

 

I put full synth oil in an old engine only once. Leaks galore. Tried to go back to regular oil & still had leaks. Went to a high mileage semi-synth. & that got things back under control after a bit. The high mileage oils have additives designed to swell seals & help stop the leaks of an old engine.

I'll suggest only using full synth on a young engine, or an engine that has always used it.
(unless you are looking to find which washers/gaskets/seals need replacing.)

 

Never heard of that trick.
But I wouldn't do it. Don't want to spill cold water on myself - & I would. Also, if there's ice I use the time scraping as time for the engine to warm up. Besides, breathing all that cold air kills the cold & flu germs trying to take root.

 

42 hour drive from Grande Prairie, Alberta to Montreal, Quebec.

Wasn't THAT bad but I did try pouring cool water over it, then watched the cool water become ice.

I had the most horrible dream that I wrecked the VW and the insurance company had this program where they "fix" your car and auction it off to pay you for your loss. "Fix" included an ugly wide body kit to cover the smashed body, retrofitting a Ford front end that looked like an overweight fiesta, and adapting some strange suspension that allowed it to pivot turn because the wheels turned more than 90 degrees. It sold immediately once they showed off the pivot turn feature. What my wife cooked for dinner I will never eat again.

And, other than all of Canada, China, Russia..., I can see the perspective.

 

So the water trick didn't work well? If I had as much snow as shown on the car in that photo, I'd push off the snow then use a long handled pot to reach and pour across the windshield, near the top. I got good at it at the time.
