I just bought a new tundra 2019 with 5.7 and after cold start and the first turn of steering wheel I hear a small squeak. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Also after driving for 30 mins or so something has a burnt smell. I only have 1500 miles on it. Not sure if burning smell is just new stuff burning if its normal.

Don't mean to bring bad news, but I would look through the wheel wells near the back under the valve cover for a leak..

Maybe ignore that first comment. A brand new truck will almost certainly not have a leak causing this.

Most likely it is the common burning off smell associated with a new vehicle as it warms up.

I’m not sure about the squeak you’re describing. Any video?

Doesn’t the ABS brake system do a self check after you start and drive off? Maybe that’s what you hear..not sure

There are plenty of "brand new" Tundras that have the Cam Tower oil leak. Mine started leaking at 14,000 miles. It was a good suggestion by @jeremyd . Look here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/cam-shaft-tower-seal-leaking-please-read.20102/

Plenty of very low mileage oil leaks in there.

I have a 2019 same milage still have the smells. I do have a creak when I push it in drive and go. Not related to turning the wheel, though.

No perspective needed. It is a known issue with the 5.7 engine. Go through the thread. More than one instance of Tundras with discovered leaks at the first vehicle service. While it probably isn't the problem in this case, it is worth checking.

That’s why I agree. I’m well aware of this known issue.

This is a 2019 with 1500 miles. It’s probably just burning off like every other new vehicle.

Did some searching on the forum and there are a few others that has the same little squeak after putting it in drive and taking off. Sounds like the problem from what ive read is nothing to worry about.

I have 500 mi on the clock of my new 19 Pro and yesterday I could smell a slight burning smell in my garage after I shut the engine off.

After doing some looking around the forum I guess Its pretty common for Tundras have cam tower leaks. This will leak a little oil and get on the exhaust causing the burnt smell.

I saw the pics members have taken showing where the leak was coming from.
I went out with a flashlight and mine seems to be dry. No visible leak.
Hopefully it’s just the new wearing off.

I had a cam tower leak. It was a very noticeable burning smell. The oil was dripping onto the heat shield and burning. It does not smell like a new car break-in smell.

related-not-related... just got a new oven, and holy crap did that baby smell (with a visible cloud) during the first fire up. Not something you expect. So I completely understand the worry

2019 with 1500ish miles on it. It does have a little squeak after getting out of reverse and driving off. It did have the new car burnt off smell at first. Especially if I had got on it a little bit right before shutting it off.

My 19 doesn’t have a squeak. It has a slightly audible thump right when you take off.
Sounds like someone lightly tapped on your TRD skid plate with a hammer. If you have the radio on you wouldn’t hear it. I believe from what I’ve read it’s the abs self check

Do you live in a cold area? Could the squeak be the belt when the power steering first puts a load on it?

All new things that heat up will have a smell .Furnaces ,water heaters , ovens , cars , I say take a nice long trip in it. In the hot summer time .And I believe it will go away .Everything has a dab of oil coating to keep everything looking nice for the new buyer .

I’ve had my 2019 CM Tundra for almost a month (750 miles) No squeak, but do have the normal ABS thump.. nothing big.

I do have a burning smell though. Noticed it bad this past weekend and again this morning. The smell was strong enough to come through the vents. For peace of mind, I’ll be taking to the dealership, but I’m hopefully it’s just a new car use thing!

I've had eight (8) brand new (from the factory) Toyotas over the years. Every single one has had funky lil' smells when new. My explanation each and every time? "It's a new car." Within 5,000 miles it was neither noticed any longer nor remembered. On all 8.

Yeah, it's probably nothing, but I work in a mx type area and all the mechanics said shouldn't have any burning smells. Just to be safe I have an appointment today to have Toyota check it out. I'll post what the dealer says!

Dealership said it’s the rust prevention coating put on the truck for my region (Utah). Said to take to car wash and expect it to dissipate around the 1.5K-2K miles range.

He gave me the chemical name but it was long and I didn’t write it down lol!
