What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Thats impressive. Only way I get that is flat driving at 65-75 mph on straight highway (drafting and with a tail wind).

 

Hey if these get 17mpg on the highway that’s already and upgrade from my 01 Tacoma averaging 16mpg lol

 

Anyone know if the bucket seats are bolt in for the reg cab tundras? Tacos can have buckets swapped in bolt it.

My seat reaks of cigarette smoke so nows the time to rid it of the smell

 

Yeah I've noticed my 06 Tundra and my 03 Tacoma got about the same mileage as well.

 

Can't answer the seat question but one of these guys will take care of the cigarette smell for good.

Perfect because when I saw him I was on my way home from Wally world picking up 5w-30 Mobil 1 synthetic. I'm going to swap the diff fluid soon to, added to my agenda.

Tomorrow I should have the same package but in Honda form, gonna put 5w-20 of the same oil in the Element this week and swap the rear diff fluid with Honda stuff. As ugly as Elements are, with the manual trans and 4wd, it's proved to be the perfect car for our ski trips this harsh California winter.

 

Picked up this bestop today for cheap. It's off a ram 1500 but fits pretty good on the tundra

 

Got a trifold cover for the bed today. Can't wait for the roll-up cover to be gone.
Also swore at google maps. Gave me 'unable to find a route' on the phone, same as last time I tried using it. 2 times before it took me to some random advertisers store not really near my final destination. ...and mind you, this is after pulling up route on the computer successfully, then sending it to the phone that the route no longer exists.
Hate maps.google, but love the 'new' Extang Trifecta trifold. (too dark for photos)

 

I cant decide between the trifold and a good rollup. I was leaning toward the rollup so I could have full access to the bed. Now I read that you have a rollup, don't like it and went with a trifold. Educate me a little and tell me your pros and cons

 

Probably depends on how you use your bed & how strong your OCD is.
It's rare that I have something singular put into my bed that will fill the bed. I usually put something in the back & if need be shove it in further - eg: 4 wheels & tires. I put two in the back & use the next two to shove the first ones back. If I was loading in my motorcycle all the time a trifold would be annoying, but I think a motorcycle tire would rub on the rollup one - so...

The rollup gets out of the way more completely while installed, but I just don't need that. The tri-fold comes off completely w/ 2 spring clamps (no - not going to fall off, really good spring clamps). When rolling up the current cover, it want's to roll up slightly cocky & my OCD wants it rolled up perfectly perfect. The roll up, when rolled up leaves a frame along the side caps. I have cross bars from my Tacoma I plan to use on the Tundra too & they won't fit w/ that frame in the way. The tri fold I flip, flip, un-spring clamp x2 & it's out of the way.

So how often do you need direct access to the top 1/3 of the bed (cab end)?
Would you rather flip open = 1/3 uncovered, flip again = 2/3 open, or would you want to crawl in & roll, roll, roll, roll = 1/3 bed, roll, roll, roll, roll = 2/3 bed... now I have to climb out of the bed? You can roll it from the side, but mine gets catawampus as I said.

I suspect the rollup might take a little more weight set on top of it. But both are cloth, so I wouldn't put anything on either. There are also hard trifolds if you want that.

edit: they are cloth covers over a frame, both are strong & tight, no flapping cloth on your bed.

 

Spent a little time doing my own alignment, at least the toe. It drove almost straight before, but the top of the wheel was aimed about 10 o'clock.



So I figured if I spin the driver side tie rod in 3 spins and passenger side rod out 3 spins it should be close to center. I started there, got pretty close, did another spin each side. Then it was real close but still curving right a bit. Driver side wheel was kicked in slightly so I spun that one out a bit. A few more adjustments and I got it driving straight with the wheel straight.



Drove around the corner to get a 6 pack and got it up to 5k rpm. I miss driving this thing. Camber and castor are way off but this will work for a few weeks until I get new tires.

not gunna lie, I'm jealous that your tire pressure light isn't constantly on. My truck had no tmps when I bought it.

 

ABS light isn't much better

 

abs was on for the last 1 or so in my 03 taco because the shop i got aligned and rotated at fucked up a sensor and refused to pay for it or fix it. So I had to pull the fuse. Lol

 

Just ordered this. I bought an 06 4.7 AC this last Tuesday. The previous owner smoked. I detailed the interior (toothbrush), pulled the seats and shampooed the carpet yesterday. Smell is better but not gone. Do I need to use this entire can? It appears to be designed for larger spaces. Will using the full can be overkill?

 

Me too! Mine has been on since I put the new rims n tires on. May be time for the old black tape mod.

 

Did the truck have sensors when you bought it?

 

Replaced the thermostat.

Greased the driveshaft.

Put worm clamps over both cat heat shields - bolts were loose but rusty and they made a racket on cold start. Now they are tight.

Bonus - installed steps on my dads 2018 Tundra. 4 bolts per side and done.

 

It had 16"x8" Eagle Alloys when I bought it. It only started flashing after I swapped them for the 17" TE wheels. I thought I had heard there was a fuse to pull. I cleared it with my code reader but it came back after I aired down for a trail run. Now it just stays on. So flippin annoying.

 

How was this job? It looks fairly easy. I'll do mine at some point this spring. Did you go with an OEM replacement or something else?

 

Can we pull the warning light bulbs out of our gauges? I have a bunch of lights on because of removing the abs and all the other stuff I’ve modified.

 

Use the whole can. Wait for a warm day so you can leave the windows down for awhile after it's done.

It'll have some residual odor for a little while but not as bad as the smoke and it'll dissipate.

 

I'll have to see if I can find it, but I deleted my TPMS. There are a few wires that run behind the glovebox, and I believe there is a silver/pink wire you need to cut and ground out and it will eliminate the TPMS light.

Check with local detailing companies. I had the same issue when I bought my truck, and I had mine o-zoned overnight and it nearly got rid of the smell. The real test will be this summer after it sits in the hot sun for a few hours.

 

I jump started the truck this morning. When I parked on Saturday, I must have left an interior light on. Battery was flat. Grabbed my jump pack which I kept charged but had never used. Hook it up, turn it on and all the jumpstart prompts on the screen are in fucking french. Figures thats what I'd win as a door prize from my company.

Chucked that shit and used The Woman's car to jump the truck. Really glad I discovered the french treachery on the booster pack in the driveway and not 100km into the backcountry.

The search for a quality, non- french booster pack begins.

 

I honestly thought the French would just pay someone else to jump their cars..

I don't see why not, but there must be an ABS fuse that could be pulled as well. Just not sure if that hurts, I think the ABS plumbing intercepts the brake fluid between master and slave cylinders. I'm planning to fix mine the correct way, just not sure what the cause is yet. Hopefully the rings aren't badly placed, they seemed aligned after the bearings job.
