I live in Bay Area in a small coastal town called pacifica about 10-15 minutes from SF. About a mile or two from the Ocean. It seals pretty well, but I’m going to add some black silicone around the entire edge of it to see if it helps with dust just to try it. I’m sure without the rack dust still gets in but it’s worth a try. As for water I can’t face downhill cause water will sit in the corner of the truck. Hopefully the silicone will help with this. Just park facing uphill and it’s fine. When driving in rain storms it seals just fine cause the water is running off of it.

    Thanks for the reply.

Before I installed a Steel Max rack, I mounted a neighbor's tonneau cover for a week-long road trip through the Southwest; lots of dirt roads. The bed was filled with dust, especially near the two gaps on either side of the tail gate. On here I read that's where most water gets in too.

My bed is filled with dust with the tonneau cover on even without the rack installed. It's not a hermetically sealed container.

Ya I figured. Unless we add some weatherstripping on the tailgate and try to close off all holes, but even then. When on a dirt road dust finds a way.

I will try to add the weatherstripping and seal holes then go wheeling and will post up results. Unfortunately that won’t be for a while. It I did just add my roof top tent to my rack. Just need to put my road shower, awning and maxtrax back on to be complete.

Had to move maxtrax onto the passenger side to make the driver side the entrance. Plus had to customize my custom awning mounts that milo made. I have a road shower that goes onto the passenger side above the maxtrax to help with the gas tank weight on the drivers side. But I’m fully functional now. Now I have to put it to work on a trail. 142D4E5E-B94C-468F-B21E-CFED82FEA7AF.jpgF055F90D-E9D5-41B9-862F-654FA7D1A357.jpgA4999538-0023-43F9-A9A2-75645D2C8DA3.jpg

@KB Voodoo what rolling cover do you recommend with your rack? Which one would you get? I was looking at the revolver x4 but looking for opinions. I want to be able to open the cover with the rack on.

We recommend the Pace Edwards Switchblade and Retrax.

Anyone put a third brake light on there rack since it covers the stock one on the truck with RTT? If so, what did you use? Need to add one.

Haha better to over build that under. They make a smaller one too but doesn’t have the ambers. I like the ambers. Would work well as dust/rear fog lamp.

I agree. I decided to check out rigid since all my lights on my truck are rigid. They have a 2x7 chase light that does everything as well except for turn signal. I would do like 2 or 3 of them. They are a little bit bigger than the rack itself. The center brace is like 1 3/4” so it would overhang. But the Baja designs wouldn’t. Hmm.

Those are nice. It would be a good setup to have 4. 2 reds in the middle and amber on the outsides. You can use the reds as brake lamps and marker. Amber for fogs/dust.

Ya after looking at the rack it would more than likely be 3 of the rigid ones. One in the middle and two on the corners. But if I do go that route I’ll buy one first as a sacrificial lamb to see if I like the fit and light output. At 240 a piece I’d try the middle one firstand if all goes well add the other two.

@Jimes nice setup. You running 35" on your 18" rims ?
I lived in Pacifica in the early 2000's. Nice coastal town. I don't miss the fog though :)

Thank you and yes for for now. I want 37s when the 35s wear out. Pacifica fog can be thick at times. More so at the top of pacifica where my mom lives. I live closer to the beach in a valley so we tend to have a microclimate that is different than upper pacifica. Just don’t like the one way in and one way out of my neighborhood. If and when highway 1 has issues I’m pretty much screwed. Other than that I’ll probably stay here for the rest of my life if possible.

yeah it's definitely a nice town that doesn't make you feel you are in the Bay Area. Also a cool gun shop there.
I used to live on top of the hills. Best sunsets ever from the living room.

I used to live in the apartments above that gun store next to the castle. Yes we have a castle in pacifica. And ya it’s definitely not your typical city life. That’s why I plan on staying if I don’t go broke modding this truck.

I will be stealing this idea! How high would you say the rack starts off the bed rails? 3”?
