For those that have done this swap/upgrade what parts besides the differential were needed?

    Thanks in advance

I would seriously consider new gears. 4.88 are fun even with only one size bigger tires.

But if you don’t want new gears you will need to get new bearings either way. Even if they aren’t destroyed taking them off the old carrier, I wouldn’t run the old bearings.

Did you change the gears in the front too?
So differential, bearings and fluid is all that’s needed to do the job?

This is probably my next mod. I’ll skip the gears though because I’m running stock size tires. I just changed them to KO2s. I enjoy wrenching but this one I’m getting a pro.

upload_2018-12-6_8-14-15.jpg 3 oz of additive for every quart of gear oil. You will need to buy an extra bottle of additive, the lsd Pro comes with a 6 oz bottle upload_2018-12-6_8-13-26.jpg

    Bearing/shim kit.

You can reuse the ring gear bolts, but if you want to swap out for new ones, you will need 12 of them.

Good luck. I really like knowing I have the extra traction and it helps a lot when off roading. Also, it works seemlessly with out traction control.

I have one, but I'm curious about what you mean. It works seamlessly without traction control?

Think he means you can light up both tires when you turn TC off.
Also second getting new bearings. Mine got trashed when i did the swap. The cage is unsupported on the bottom of the tapered bearing, so it tends to deform whenver you try to remove.

@swank501 is correct. That is what I meant. I have had this installed for a few months now and I’m really glad I did. I do some mild off-roading and in spots where 4wd was needed in the past, I can make it either up or through the obstacles without 4wd now. One thing I have notice is, when the roads are wet and I’m making a hard turn I will get a bit of a shutter in the rear because one wheel is trying to catch up to the other. The shutter is mild, doesn’t happen all the time when the roads are wet and never happens when the roads are dry. With all the nannies off, you can absolutely leave two nice marks.

Well mine did work as you described, with the nannies off. But not anymore. I can just sit and spin one tire now, 10 month in to ownership, and I only drive this thing on the weekends.

Only 10 months, that sucks. Mine is less then 5 months old. What kind of gear oil did you use ?

    Flux capacitor!
Before I ordered my Auburn LSD I’d asked them which model and the oil they recommended. They did not recommend a synthetic oil because it can lead to faster wear. I was surprised to hear that but I followed their suggestions and all had been great so far.

    Auburn rear differential
    High performance differential limited slip
    10 1/2 12bolt
    Part number:
    5420134
    36 spline axial
    Non synthetic oil
    80-90 Weight oil with additive

You can see the full bearing replacement set by G2 on top of the Auburn LSD box.

This it exactly what I was told to use by Auburn when I spoke with them. I’m wondering if he used synthetic oil.

I had a mechanic install it, so I just left him a message. TBD if the correct oil was used, thanks for the input family. This forum has been great!

Edit, the shop used the correct oil. No clue why this thing failed so fast, but hoping Auburn will answer that.

I remember reading a thread here about a year ago where alot of guys with Auburns had them wear out very quickly. I was all set to buy one until I read that thread.

Yes and I don't understand that either. It cost an arm and a leg just for installation.
