So just sitting here on my recliner thinking about random Tundra thoughts so here we go...
...Using a popular online tire calculator tool I have found that my speedometer is about 5-7 mph slow (speedo says 75, I'm really going 82ish) at highway speeds. Wonderful NM state police has confirmed this for me via many speeding tickets LOL.

So the question is, since I have bigger tires on my truck and haven't had the speedometer recalibrated does my Tundra technically have more mileage than the odometer says I do? And secondly, since I technically cover more distance than my truck thinks I do, do I really get better MPG than what my truck says I get?

I would think that your mileage is understated. Not sure about the mpg's.

But let's say for the sake of mathematics and conversation I travel 4 hours at 75mph (according to the speedo) I would cover 300 miles and let's say go thru 20 gallons. That's 15mpg.

Well since my speedo is off by 5-7mph I technically traveled 328 miles using 20 gallons which is 16.4 mpg

If I recall correctly that is right...except that your speedo isn't off a set amount...but instead a percentage. I have 35's. I think they come stock with 32.?? whatever they were it was like 7 or 8% I am recalibrated and verified using a few different GPS. I used to have a picture of my bully dog and my speedometer to show the difference...to the people that didn't believe it.

It is easier to notice the difference obviously at higher speeds because the difference becomes more dramatic.

Answer to question 1: no technicality about it, the actual traveled mileage is more than shown on the odo.

Answer to question 2: seriously?....LOL (even your truck thought that was funny) .

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
    To your questions...
    Yes and Yes.

There are calculators out there on the inter-webs to help determine the 'real' numbers.

You can also change your gears and get back to more 'stock' numbers. 4.88's are good up to 35's. If you go to 37 +, you really need 5.29's.

I think the answer is yes and yes.

My odometer says 66500 miles. But i know the “true” mileage should be around 72000. I ran true 35 inch tires for 3 years

I guess I should have also mentioned that I really don't care about either of these questions, it really just as the title states is food for thought. I bought a Tundra cause I wanted it, I knew the gas mileage sucks, I knew that when I put the leveling kit and tires it would throw off the speedo and make the gas mileage worse.
