    Not many yet, mostly stock.
Never trust a dealership to do the right things, unless you know someone who works there.
If they can say no to a reasonable request.. I’m always suspicious of that.
The three times I went back to the dealership ship I purchased from, it didn’t turn out in my favor, until I pushed back. Hopefully I’m a isolated case.

Your delema is you might have pre-mature engine failure while under warranty. I use Mobil1 full synthetic 0-20 every 5k I do it myself with a Wix filter. Save your receipts to cover your azz. Write the miles down on the receipts. That way you have proof should you ever need it verified by the stealership. I always flush the engine out after all the oil has drained with the cheapest oil I can get. My inlaw left his oil fill cap off for months between changes done at a fast lube joint, your has the same grit. YouTube has many videos on how to remove your skid plate and socket sizes are explained to change your oil. Don't be intimated by the dealership to only have them do oil changes. As others said I get satisfaction doing all the maintenance myself.

This is very concerning to me due to the fact that I have free lifetime oil changes as well as a lifetime power train warranty that covers pretty much every engine, transmission and electrical component. The only caveat to this lifetime warranty is that I have to perform all of my service at a Toyota dealership and during the scheduled mileage or time frame....This warranty was one of the reasons why I purchased from the dealership that I did in Raleigh, NC.

That's why they call it a stealership, I have a 01 with 187,332, and don't look like that when I change it every 4000 miles my self.

Get to know someone there. That is what I did...not that it was planned. Get a service manager and a tech and get to know them somehow.

Man I hope not :( only reason I was using the dealership was for the first 2 years free oil changes. I’m doing my own maintenance now. Also used Mobil1 0W-20 full synthetic. I’ll be changing my girls oil from now on!

There is also an idiot light that comes on after 10,000 miles to remind you of a maintenance needed oil change. Be sure to reset this every time you do maintenance as it's logged into your permanent memory chip in the truck. Kind of like a black box in an Airplane. Because if you tell them every 5k you changed it and the idiot light memory chip says otherwise.

Next time you go to the dealership ask the guy changing the oil what the torque is for the drain plug, filter plug and filter canister. Then after he fumbles some 9ers out of his mouth back your truck out and get TF out of there.
I’ve had terrible experience with dealership oil monkeys. I let them touch my Tundra once. When I did it the first time I needed a breaker bar for the canister.
OP, hopefully after a clean filter the next one will look good. Keep us posted.
Also, maybe have an actual mechanic look at that flaw. If it’s the source of that junk I would think Yota would stand behind it.

I have a Dorman 917-016 cap, there might be better ones out there.

Show your dealer the pics. If nothing is done, take pics next time and compare if the crack is worse.
    Good luck!

Lol, no way in hell is anyone changing my oil from now on but me. Everything seemed tighten to spec thankfully. Yeah, I hope there is no more gunk in there. I was thinking I should have Toyota look at that “crack” though.

Have a bad feeling it’s coming from that spot. Hope I’m wrong though. When I have time, I might swing by and show them the picture to see what they say.

I do all the maintenance myself on mine. I just can't trust them to do it right. I let every last drop of oil drip out before finishing. When I took my truck in for a recall last year, I found a half of an Oreo under the seat. I don't eat in there so they probably had lunch in the truck with it running the whole time for the few hours they had it.

That's why I always do my own maintenance, I use mobil 1 every 10k miles. One time I drove for 15k miles between oil changes and my oil filter still was looking better than yours, I bet they never changed oil at all in your truck.

You can get the oil for a little cheaper at Walmart. I think average around $25 for 5 quart jugs.

If that’s a flaw and they are concerned about it I wonder what they could do short of changing the engine? Either way, have them look at it and get it documented. Maybe bring it in close to your next oil change and they will do it free. The mechanic would do it. I would bring my truck in if I knew a mechanic was the one touching it.

It’s so frustrating being a tradesmen and watching people get treated like this. I always try to do the best job I can for people. It’s a service you’re paid to do so you should take pride in your work and do it right!

I’m weird I get attached to every car I’ve ever had. Sometimes I work on friends and families vehicles. I’ve even been paid to do random services for people. I always treat every car as if it were my own. To me it’s as if the car has a personality. I almost treat them like I’m working on a person. I’m trying to make the car last as long a life as possible. Junkyards make me sad.

I was taking a look at it earlier. It looked “to me” like that area can be changed out. But that was just my quick observation of it. For sure I’m going to bring it to there attention. I’ll request a real mechanic to do the oil service also.

The "crack" appears to just be a casting flaw. Not that uncommon on the surface of aluminum castings. Unless you see a similar flaw in the exact location on the outside, I wouldn't be too concerned. Look around closely at your engine block and heads, chances are you can find very similar flaws here and there.

I seriously doubt the oil filters were not changed at the previous services, but it's clear the "techs" were too lazy to flush the canister out. Did all the oil/filter change on my 07 every 5k miles, and that area tends to get a little sludgy looking.

    Me neither.

    The dealer can blow me.

I bought the tool for the canister and just do it myself.

I picked up a 2012 Tundra TRD 4x4 with 46k miles on it from a ret. Navy buddy of mine up in Norfolk VA. He bragged about the oil changes he was getting at Checkered Flag Toyota. First thing I did was change the oil. When I got to the protective skid plate underneath, I couldn't break the seal on the installed bolts. I had to use a breaker bar which indicates to me that these bolts had NEVER been removed. Which also meant that the filter located on the other side of this plate had never been replaced. 46k miles and the filter had never been replaced. I never trust the dealer and I always change my own oil. Luckily I have not experienced any adversities from the filter not being changed for so long. Overall, very happy with my Tundra!

when I used to go to the dealership for the free maintenance I would always catch them on the tires rotation as i was marking them beforehand. I would call them out each time...

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
    ^^^This.
Casting slag is where the (sand) molds were either not all the way smooth, or there was some microscopic impurity or temperature difference in that bend that created the tiny surface cracking/dimpling.
Does the oil leak through the 'crack'? Meaning, after you wipe it clean does it keep leaking through at a noticeable level?

I agree with the others...the dealership likely never changed the filter. Going forward...

    - Get a K&N oil filter
    - Use a high quality oil...Mobil 1 or Royal P.
    - Replace one of your quarts of oil with a qt of Lucas Oil, Full-Synthetic Stabilizer

You'll be good to go!

Your analogy is spot on for anyone who's been around car/ truck repair. I rember when you were tought this stuff in high school, man that makes me sound old. I believe most of us car/ truck guys get it. I appreciate your comments. Thank you Sean.

Will do. What do you use to flush it out with? I just wiped up as much as I could. Couldn't remove that center slotted piece. Pushed down a twisted it and wouldn’t budge

You are correct...The Oil filter housing body can be replaced if necessary. It bolts to the main block...it's not molded as part of it.
Check the link below...It's #15. There's two different options.

Berrymans spray carb cleaner is my personal favorite (dissolves the sh!t right now!).....but most any brand carb and/or brake cleaner will do the trick.
Simple Green works also, just more time consuming since it's not quite as aggressive (and is more eco friendly for the tree hugger types).
