38281D59-6DAC-49DC-9EF4-F94C9B234CA6.jpg My hood bulge keeps catching air and popping the top out. I reinserted the clips and fixed it multiple times a day, and as soon as a 18 wheeler or big truck passes by, it catches air and pops back out.

Finally, I JB weld the clips to hold it in place and it lasted about a day before it caught air again and ripped the clips out of the tabs!

I have since gorilla taped it down and it’s not holding anymore either. I thought it might be an issue with my truck being a 2016, but my coworker has a 2018 that’s experiencing the same issue. I don’t want to buy a new hood bulge for $200 just for it to pop out again. Any ideas?

A little of this and a little of that.
That’s weird. I’ve only heard of one other person experiencing this. Don’t remember the fix. Have you taken the bulge off a lot before? Could yo buy new tabs from Toyota?

Ha! Happened here too, my solution is with zip ties, but I'm not in my Tundra now, the brackets that hold the HB become brittle and break, so you have to take off that mesh screen that's held with screws to the HB, it's kinda tricky, but it works, I drilled 4 holes and holds in place perfect

I have never taken it off, only popped it back in place when it would catch air and pop out. Someone on Facebook said that theirs does this also, and they’ve replaced the clips only to have it continue.. may be something I just have to deal with. I work in west Texas oilfield, lots of big trucks hauling ass + high winds

@ARamirez73 I was just about to tag you. @Cfincke Didn't you say you have this problem also?

I haven't had this problem on my 14.

Sorry wish I had Tundra with me to show you, but the brackets that hold the clips become brittle, the screen mesh that's held with screws on the back side take out, i used small things zip ties that can barely be seen, with the mesh screen loose kinda close to the edge of the HB you have to drill some holes on HB and mesh screen, then loop the zip tie through both, sorry wish I had my Tundra to show you, kinda hard to describe

At the top of the mesh screen (the first row of holes) where it meets the HB from the inside, there are areas where you can drill some small holes, then loop the zip tie

Yes, mine will pop up on occasion, hasn't in a while. When i had my budge painted, they stripped 2 or 3 screws that holds the black piece in. Eventually i will buy a new budge that is color matched and not paint over chrome.

Can I drive it without a hood bulge?? Or will the hood catch too much air?

Mine is doing this now also. I know it was caused by the bodyshop. Being put on and taken off multiple times. I am either going to order a new one or see if I can get those serrated clip things. Screenshot_20190204-215735_Chrome.jpg

    @Acrotalus

    What I did...

    KIMG0019.jpg
These tabs ^ become brittle and break offKIMG0020.jpg
    Some have broken off^
KIMG0021.jpg KIMG0022.jpg KIMG0022.jpg KIMG0023.jpg KIMG0024.jpg KIMG0025.jpg KIMG0028.jpg At the top of the HB at this lip ^ I used a 3/16 drill bit and did 4 holes across the HB, trying to be careful not to drill coming out at the top surface of HB
    KIMG0029.jpg KIMG0030.jpg KIMG0032.jpg
When removing MESH assembly off kinda hard to do when HB and MESH apart line up to drill holes on the where I'm pointing is the front of the MESH KIMG0035.jpg KIMG0036.jpg run zip ties through HB
    KIMG0037.jpg KIMG0039.jpg KIMG0045.jpg
Tricky part is running zip tie through MESH back to other end of zip tie KIMG0047.jpg KIMG0048.jpg
Run down highway no lifting of HB

    KIMG0046.jpg
You have to get really close to notice zip tie

Mine has since been replaced, and is working great. I replaced the push clips with some beefier ones off of Amazon, and gorilla glued all of the tabs. If it pops up even once, I will be cutting holes in the back of the mesh so that the air flow goes into the hood, and down into engine bay

So mine did this also, actually it just blew off while I was driving down the road. All the clips broke so I just bought a new one. If the new one comes off maybe I will try the zip tie thing
