Cooper Discoverer ATP <vs> BFGoodrich T/A K02

Does anyone have any experience with these Cooper tires? I've yet to see them in person, but they get really good reviews and seem like they might look nice..

I'm going to get some new tires tomorrow, considering the Coopers or the BF Goodrich T/A K02's. Anyone have any strong feelings either way? If anyone has pictures of either of these tires on a 3rd gen Tundra I'd love to see them.

 

I had the Coopers on my Tacoma and liked them alot. They will be the next tire on my tundra.

 

Never had the coopers but I would not trade my ko2's for anything.... Love them

 

I got STT PROS and I really like them

Some of the reviews I'm seeing on the K02s report a vibration that won't go away, are you getting that at all?

You have the K02s installed in your profile picture? Do you have a leveling kit installed? Looks really good.. I think I might be leaning on this side of the fence..

 

After doing a lot of research on the various Tundra forums and then looking at the tires in person I went with the KO2's and installed them last weekend. These are early days but first impressions are they look better than I expected once mounted and installed and even more importantly they are quiet, stable and ride great. Caveat, have not been offroad yet. Good luck with your selection.

 

Are those 285/65r18?

I'm considering the K02 in a 275/70r18 - basically just trying to decide on a size now. I'm using stock wheels but plan on getting a 1.5" - 2" spacer/adapter as well.

 

i've never driven coopers so i can't argue for or against them but i've had bfg's on 2 vehicles and 1 set of goodyear duratracs. i'll replace these ko2's with another set when these are done. fantastic tire.

 

305/65R17's - was thinking 18's originally but went with the 17" recommendation from Keith at Dirty Deeds, selected Method NV's with 0 offset and pretty happy with the set up. May have to do fender flares but going to install Bilstein's on all four corners first and see how she looks.

 

Every time I have purchased tires or talked with people who have purchased them they have said one of two things:

1. I wish I had spent the extra money.
2. I'm glad I spent the money, these are great!

IMO you get what you pay for. Tires are engineered to a price point. Kinda like trucks. Toyota trucks cost more feature for feature......

I have owned BFG's and loved them and I have owned coopers and been less than thrilled with them.

 

I've been pretty impressed with my STT Pros so far. Living up to all the good reviews so far.Tread compound appears to be the real deal. No rubber chipping and great side walls. Waiting for the first decent snow to see how they perform. My Nitto M/T Trail Grapplers were pretty good but wasn't too impressed with them on packed snow, although they did well in deep snow. Don't know much about the ATPs other than the reviews are good.

 

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I ended up going with the KO2s, though I feel the Coopers are pretty nice as well. I'm keeping the stock wheels, went from a 275/65 to a 285/65. I'm watching the pit crew install them now and will post pics later.

I've ran Coopers on my Tacoma for the past 5 years. I drive 120 miles a day and these things have great tread, handle awesome in snow\ice\slush\rain, wear life and price point. I havent driven with them on the Tundra so not sure how it will drive but if its anything like on the Tacoma I will definitely buy them for the Tundra.

 

Were they STT Pro? I've driven my STT s in some serious CO thunder storm s##t lately. 0 hydro planing. My Nittos sucked at that. I still stand by Goodyear DuraTracs for the best all around tire.

 

There are so many good tires out there. It might be easier to start a thread about which tires truly suck. I'll start... OEM tires. Massed produced POS.

 

I've driven on them about 90 miles today, which is certainly not enough to have an in depth opinion, but I will say that I immediately felt how sticky they were when leaving the tire shop. Additionally, they track very well and my steering seems more responsive. I feel they soak up bumps a bit better than the Michelins that came with the truck, and turning feels more controlled and stiffer, which I prefer to the rolling feel of the Michelins. Obviously they look pretty great too. I took the truck out to my favorite shooting spot to see how it did and the tires were stuck firmly in the ground even in deep gravel at over 50mph. I'm pretty sure I threw a few rocks up into the paint tho. =\

Long story short, at this point I would definitely recommend the K02s - but I cannot say how they compare to the Cooper ATP.

 

The one redeeming factor of the OEM tires is that they seem to get the best fuel economy.. Otherwise yeah, they really suck.

 

Dead horse. Tires will always be a good topic here. Depends what U do with your Tundra. Main thing is we have a Tundra. If we all agreed on the same tires, suspension, best color, topper, tonneau, best boobs "little or huge"....... this forum would be useless.

I almost went that route but stuck with the Toyo AT2 just because they had the size I want.

Lot of KO's have been sold, that's a good indicator of a decent tire. I've seen a few ATPs and the tread design is totally different for sure. Probably good enough for DD and the occasional off highway romp. One thing for sure is that not too many here bragging up the OEM Duelers...heh heh My vote would be to go with KO2s over the ATP easily.

 

Don't get me started on the duelers! Damn near bald before 30K miles and were brand new when I got my truck!!

 

I'm in the market, and local Toyota dealer has buy 3 get 4th FREE in Oct. They probably just raise the price to start with! Ill check around to keep them honest, but sounds like BFG AT K02's are going on. thinking 275/60/20. Sweeet looking tires!
