Historically my family and I have always driven Fords. My last two trucks have been a 2000 Access Cab SR5 and now a 2014 CrewMax SR5. The only thing I miss is having the remote entry numeric keypad on the door. Does anyone know of an aftermarket keypad that will work with our trucks?

Why would u miss something like that? Would the remote entry not be a better choice?

When I go out mountain biking or hiking I would lock my keys in the truck. when I got back I could punch the code in and unlock it. This way I never risked loosing my keys while I was out in the middle of the woods, and didn't have to keep them in my pocket.

To each their own, but I would never leave my keys in a vehicle- locked or not. Why take he Risk? Unless you're Lance Armstrong- and ur passion for biking is that strong just place them in a pouch on the bike somewhere, or maybe find a place to secure it around your waist. Just my .02

The man does have a solid point though. Have you thought about a secret hiding spot for them under the truck somewhere?

Hmm, haven't heard of an aftermarket gadget like that.

    Other options:

    *Magnetic Hide-a-key box
*Hide your key under a rock
*Tie the key to a drone that will follow you around
*Cut a hole and install a secret hatch under the truck
*Leave the FOB, swallow the key and mix some laxative with your sports drink

what if someone wants to steal my keys out of my pocket.... what if they want to break into my house and steal my keys when they hang next to the door.... what if they want to come into my firehouse while we are out on a run and take my keys from my locker.... what if they want to steal them out of my locker at the gym.... what if they want to......

I found it to be something I used quite a bit when I had Fords. probably most when I ran out to the truck to get something and it was locked. kept me from having to go back in to get the keys.

What if someone decides to knock you upside the head and you get amnesia, thus, forgetting your combination and can never drive your truck again......what if someone decides to break a window and take your truck.....what if a teleporter decides to teleport in your truck and drive away.....what if shit happens no matter what you do.

One way to prevent all that from happening.

Put your keys in a safe, get LoJack, and become Howard Hughes.

Or.....logically, you could get auto insurance and take proper precautions.

FYI. LoJack is old technology. You won't find any recent PD cars equipped with LoJack locating devices.

Found a hitch safe on Amazon.

They even have aftermarket key entry door locks. Check that out, might be right up your alley.

I never had one, but this makes sense to me.

Just curious, would the key pad make it easier to steal he truck? When you look at any key pad, much used keys are well worn. That would give a thief a smaller number of combinations to try.

yeah I guess they could narrow it down a bit, but its a 5 number combo so that would leave them 100,000 combinations to try. even if they cut that in half we are still talking 50,000.

it can't be that big of a security risk, Ford has been putting them on vehicles for decades. I looked at Hartford CT PD's stolen car list this morning and there were 2 Toyotas, 3 Fords and about 25 Hondas.

I have never owed a car with this feature but I would agree that it would be a nice feature to have. Back when I had my jet ski I would have to be really creative with how and where to hide the key.

I also miss being able to roll up and down my window with the key in the outside door lock. My VW did that.

I see your point OP, when I am at the MX track I wish my truck had that feature. It's convenient, plus you can still hide your keys in your vehicle somewhere a theif wouldn't be looking during a smash and grab.

Although they make them, I wouldn't do an aftermarket key pad. I wouldn't trust it, plus they don't look near as nice as the new flush Ford touch keypads.

I know a lot of runners remove their shoe lace from the top eyelet, slide just their key on the lace, then thread through the eyelet and tie the shoe. I would imagine your cycling shoes have Velcro, but maybe you can figure out a way to secure the key to something on your, the bike, or the helmet?

Yup. None of my MX gear has pockets. Have to wear a stupid looking fanny pack just to hold your keys. And when you forget to bring your fanny pack, you have to wear a backpack just to hold your keys. But this after market key pad is wireless. I'm sure there are some creative places you can put it so it's not so visible. I hope OP tries it out and reports back.
