Ok i have been hearing this dang clicking noise for a while. It is an inconsistent clicking that sounds much lounder/worse at slower speeds or when coming to a stop.

I searched and read lots of posts on alot of forums. Could not find an actual solution. Some suspected the rock rings or a rock rolling around in the ring or a rock rolling around in the center caps or the brake pads or the lug nut two piece design. Well non of these were the problem.

Well I figured it out and and much happier without the clicking......

Its the dang rings they put on the center caps to help hold them in place. They end up falling off and bouncing around in there. To solve the problem, just remove them.

    Nice find!
Nothing worse than that little annoying noise you cannot find.

@csuviper I bought new centercaps because mine are looking like shit- I also have the loud clicking sound. Before I put the new ones on, I'm planning on taking the metal clips out of them. I was just wondering if it affected their retention at all? at like $35/ea I don't want them to fly off the wheels driving down the road...

That sur clip keeps extra pressure on the keeper lips of the caps so they don't fall out when driving like we do lol. I replaced mine with C clips.

I removed all of mine and have not had any problems with them falling out. They seem to be in there tight.

I currently do not have center cap retaining rings or wheel rock rings installed. Have the stock lug nuts installed. No clicking.

I will have to check at ace. Couple bucks for a solid way to ensure they don't fall out might be the way to go.

I actually got a set of four on eBay for $50/free shipping- Toyota OEM parts. Here is the link, I had to buy a set of 3 and then 1 from the seller, for some reason they advertise a set of 4 for $53, but you can buy a set of 3 for $35 and 1 for $14...

Reminds me of the days when we used to put a few rocks in our buddy's wheel covers. Or tie a few washers to his driveshaft with a length of wire and listen to it whack the floorpan as he drove off and see him pull to the curb half a block away to crawl under the car.

I took out the clips, but I still have the clicking... any other ideas as to what it could be?

Weird. I have heard it could be the lug nuts being two piece. Also hear it could be something with the rock rings.

You could also lift the truck and spin the tire to see if you have a broken TPS rolling around inside. Also see if the wheel bearing is good.
Remove caps and rock rings and see if it still clicks. If so then replace the lug nuts.

Mine noise was the tire pressure sensors that some idiot taped to the wheels since they didn't fit my aftermarket wheels. Tape held it in place and would kinda swing around in the tire and wheel.

I had the clicking noise for years. What my fixed mine was cleaning the corrosion off the back side off the rims around the lug holes where the rim sits against the rotor. I now do it every time I rotate the tires haven't had the noise in couple of years.

That could explain my fix too actually. When I pulled the wheels off to add the wheel spacers I think is when the noise went away. I just attributed it to the metal rings because those were discovered at that time to be loose and rolling around.
With the wheel spacers it's a softer material to eliminate noise like that.

I forgot to add do not put any anti seize on the hub. I tied that once when I rotated them and that made the click even more.

I had clicking and a grinding noise on the passenger side. The grinding ended up being the rear bearings. The clicking was the fake bead lock around the wheels. Just a couple screws were loose.... the noise was driving me nuts!

I had the same situation, front driver's side tire made one click per revolution. I rotated my tires at home, and when I plopped the tire flat on the ground I could hear a rattle. I tapped on the bead lock ring and around a few screws it would sound different when I knocked on it. I used my impact, removed the bolt closest to the rattle and blew the debris out of the hole, then screwed the bolt back in. Continued around the ring for any similar sounds.. did this to all 4 wheels and after tightening the "loose" bolts, it didn't rattle after plopping in on the ground. Drove it about 4 miles so far without one click.
