Hi All, I recently upgraded the mirrors on my Limited to power-folding tow mirrors. I love the mirrors, but man those are some big ears! Since I can never seem to remember to fold them in when I park in tight spaces, I thought I'd see what it would take to get the truck to remember it for me.

They have fancy-shmancy mirror control modules from China floating around, but how hard could it be, right? It turns out, that you need nothing more than a DPDT relay and some judicious wiring. With this mod, turning the truck off, will fold the mirrors regardless of the position of the fold button. When the truck is started, control is returned to the button, so whatever the position of the button was when you shut down, is honored when you next start the truck.

NOTE: This mod is for the non-memory power-folding mirrors only. The Memory system controls the mirror from its CPU, and the mirror switch just sends the request.

This is awesome! I always push the button. It'd be great to have it do it automatically.

Anyone know if it's possible to add the folding mirrors from a '16 Limited to a '15 SR5?

A member has a set here and it would be a sweet upgrade.

It can be done but you will have to add the wiring and switch in the cab. @csuviper did this on his 12' and could probably shed some light for you.

As I recall, some trucks are prewired and some aren't you'll need to look at the connector into which your current mirror is plugged, and count the wires. I can then compare it to mine and letcha know if you are prewired.

You'll also need to buy and install the mirror switch. I'm pretty sure all Tundras are prewired for that. Take note, however, that there are two mirror switches available. One for memory and one for non-memory, so you'll need to install the correct switch.

So I have tow mirrors on now, power turning and heated but manual folding. Can these be switched to electric folding? I though they would need an electric motor and gears? Am I way off here?

You can swap them for power folding mirrors as long as the wiring is in place and you install the appropriate mirror switch. However, you can not add the power fold feature to your existing mirrors. They don't have the fold motors.

Some Mods :) See build thread for details
I swapped my 2012 RW mirrors for limited mirrors. The mirror adjustment and heat worked after plugging them in. The power fold and puddle light did not work. You have to swap for the limited switch and add wires from the switch to the mirror.
I have not added the wires yet so I can't really help. Will do a write up when I do it. Still trying to determine the connections needed.

Adding wires is way above my pay grade. I could definitely handle switches and such but that's about my limit.

Any chance anyone has been successful with this mod in a 2016? I have a DPDT switch and took it to a truck place to install. But the guy says no ORANGE wire on 2016... Any thoughts or suggestions to make this work?

First off, you'll need a DPDT relay, not a switch. As to color code, you'll need to get a wiring diagram for the 2016, as it sounds like the colors have changed. For what its worth, I've attached the wiring diagram for the 2nd gen. Assuming only the color of the wires changed, you should be able to go by the pinout.

Thanks bobeast. I'll see if I can figure this out... I have a relay, misspoke on a switch. This really is a must figure out for me... Love this truck, but a few little things like this drive me mad.

bobeast, it appears in the wiring diagram file that you provide, that the switch is a two position switch (it also says w/o memory seats). My '13 CM Ltd has memory seats, and as far as I can tell from the feel of the mirror fold switch, is is a momentary contact switch that either makes or breaks (probably makes) the circuit to both fold and unfold the mirrors. So I'm not sure that your setup would work on my 2nd gen. I do know that at the car wash, if an attendant manually folds in my mirrors, when I push that button, they don't unfold, they instead try to fold, and being folded already, they just snap in the folded position as the motors position themselves to open the mirrors the next time the button is pushed.

Yeah. The memory switch is different. Instead of a make/break contact directly to the mirrors, It just sends a signal to the Memory cpu and then the cpu decides what to do. This mod will not work with the memory option. I'll update the initial post to indicate that.

I wish I had the memory mirrors :) If I did, I could prolly figure out how to do it. I'm guessing you'd need a Pac TR-7 module to send a pulse on shutdown.

I have the folding memory mirrors and would kill to know how to make this mod work. I park in very tight spaces on a daily basis. Has anyone tried this yet on the memory mirrors included on the Platinum's??

I've got a PAC TR-12, I hope to fool around with someday when I get the time. Thinking about having it do double duty, disabling the nannies, and automating the mirror fold on my Limited with memory.

And I was mistaken in my earlier post about the mirror fold switch being momentary contact. By feel, when the truck was still fairly new to me, I thought that to be the case, but in getting more familiar with it, it's actually push-on, push-off. Stays in slightly farther when mirrors are folded.

Can anyone help me with putting power folding mirrors on a 2018 (gen 3) Tundra double cab limited? Get parts from a platinum-mirrors and switch in cab? What about wiring?

TRD rear sway bar, console organizer, stubby antenna, LEDs for cabin, cargo, license plate, and reverse lights, power-fold mirrors, Westin nerf bars, full stereo upgrade. Future - color-match grill surround/bulge, mirror caps, handles, plasti-dip badges.
I'm interested in this as well. I have an '18 Limited and I just found out I'm 2" shy on width to park in my garage. I could manually fold the driver's side mirror, but that would still be tight. I'd much rather spend the $$$ and do the wiring to power fold both when I park. I am hearing some conflicting reports about the Limited being pre-wired for some options, but not for others.

I have the same problem! Such a pain to manually fold both mirrors every single day

I actually just got the truck in the garage for the first time tonight. Temporary, just to get her in before this next Nor'Easter dumps another 8-12 inches of snow. Can't believe it fit!
