I put a WS2812B individually addressable RGB strip in the hood buldge, and I don't regret it.. yet.

Personally, I think that anyone running flashing red and blues except a LEO should expect some quality time behind bars

Some guy has the files on Thingiverse a 3D printing sharing website. His designed used 5mm led bulbs. Printed those and put them on my truck for 3 weeks, but they weren't bright enough, so I took them off and redesigned the letters in cad so they use white led strips instead of 3-4 bulbs per letter. Took alot of R&D but I finally got it. The fist picture the top one is the original design with the bulbs, the bottom is the final redesign

Looks like you qualify to be a float truck for the parades during Carnivàl. Or maybe to pull Santa's sleigh for the Great Christmas light fight?

To each their own, but not for me.
It's also illegal (here in CT) for any non-ems vehicle to have anything but white or amber lights.... Especially ones like those!

But, I do like the backlit "Toyota"

For the record I don't run and moving, flowing, or jumping patterns while driving, I use just solid white.

Sure, I posted on Thingiverse a couple months ago:
    https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4698028

I highly recommend you use PETG and not PLA casue I'm not sure the longevity of PLA would be too long sitting in the sun for long periods of time. The PETG has held up perfectly since I re-did them on Christmas.

Types of 3d printing filament. PLA is the most common and easiest filament to print. However is the weakest. PETG is better and has more outdoor environment resistance.

There's ABS, ASA, FPE, PC, Nylon, Wood, Carbon fiber, Kevlar, PLA plus, TPU etc are all filaments you can use.

But there are different temperatures required for each filament. Nylon requires the highest temp at around 270°C+ nozzle temp and over 110+ on the bed. PLA is one the the lowest temp filaments and can be printed as low as 180°C nozzle temp and on a unheated bed

Filaments like TPU are flexible, like a silicone phone case flexible.

TLDR: think of it like ink in a normal paper printer.

Very informative, thank you. I have had almost no exposure to 3D printing.

Well actually let me reiterate I actually didn't use any double sided tape or to glue the stock letters to the backlit letters.

The stock letters each have two alignment pins so the letters can't be put on wrong. The backlit letters have holes that the stock letters pins fit into. And pins on the back that go into stock holes on the grill. The fit is so tight they honestly don't need glue, the friction fit is more than enough to withstand 115 mph *cough cough*
