    Morning folks!

I'd appreciate it if someone could give me their normal temp ranges for their tranmissions & front/rear cats (non-towing)?. Your day to day average/max (please include your ambient temps--mine are 80F average).

Unfortunately got my ScanGuage3 AFTER I addred full skids and full cat converter guards, andn ow have a big tow coming up too.

I'd like to know if the additions I made make a huge difference in hotter temps?

    Thank you--WWD

One of the cat plate threads had a before and after temp comparison; nothing to worry about. I think the delta was +20 degrees or so.

It’s able to show front and rear cat temps?
Does your truck have a trans fluid cooler?

There aren't cat temp sensors, the cat temp is a calculated assumption not an actual measurement (if that matters to you).

The example I saw was measured with a temp gun. It could very well be the temps inside the cat were much much hotter.

    Didn't know that!

So it's like the oil temperature. Tundra doesn't have oil temp sensor either. These apps and gadgets (scangauge, ultragauge, etc.) display a calculated value ...

I was also curious about the CAT temperature rise! once it's covered up, there is much lower airflow.

Wonder what Toyota says about that and/or if any warranty issues saying your are baking the CATs.

I need to find the thread talking about temperatures. 20F temperature rise reported by some people is not bad but sounds unrealistic. Margin of error is higher than that ...
Last time I checked my CAT temps while driving, i think was over 1100F ... so a 20F rise (if valid) is not that significant.

Since the trans pan gets covered too, I'm sure it will run hotter maybe not as significant as CATs.

We've had a few trans cooler threads ... Maybe not enough but a few. lol
Curious if anyone is designing a CAT cooler for us? :D

I think it was @Tundra234 that measured before and after cat temps.

Interesting. Not sure, but I don't think the Scan Gauge is speculating? I think it is the whatever the Toyota PCM is speculating.
While sitting and idling for some time, IIRC, the front "light off" cats were both about 750F+/- and the rears 370F+/- F

And Cats LOVE HEAT (but if you smoked them and they were covered, 'Yota would definitely tell you to pound sand). From a stolen cats thread, I learned that whole section of quad cat pipe is $4-5K, and could take some time to get.

IT IS the transmission I'm more concerned about. And I am just posing over here--my ride is a '22 Sequoia SR5 4x4 and while I have not looked, I assume Trans Temp 1 and Trans Temp 2 implies there may be the coolant transmission pump? Or is Trans 1 the Torque Converter and Trans 2 the Trans Temp?

It’s this if using the correct settings on the scangauge. My trans temp hasn’t increased any and I’ve had my cat shields and have been monitoring temps for about 5 months and around 7k-8k miles, some towing.

The problem with the late Tundras (2019 to 2021) is they don't have a proper trans cooler, not sure the 22 Sequoias have the same issue. @Genuine Cooling Systems sells a kit for them if you are concerned about heat:
    https://genuinecoolingsystems.com/product/setrab-15-row-sequoia-2019-2022/

On the Tundras these do a great job of keeping temps pegged low.

I added a transmission cooler to my 2020. The going transmission temps are unchanged after cat plate install.

Genuine Cooling Systems trans cooler on my 2021. Temps stay between 185-205 for TC, Pan stays below 200

Remember, not all cat guards are built the same...

I have found my current SG3 temps (2022 Sequoia SR5--stock truck/tires, just with 100 pounds of skids/cat guards):

    1) Towing (Tow Haul mode, S6/S5) 3500lbs (600lbs in truck) were 230 degrees/85 degree weather/level ground/highway between 70-75 mph. 2) Driving (no trailer, and 600lbs in truck) trans temps were 215/85 degrees level highway/75-80 mph. Torque converter reading would of course flash higher when working it, 240++ IIRC.

For me this feels too high. I am only 1/2 of load capacity, flat grounds, and while 80-85F ambient is 'warm' in many parts of the country 90-100-110 degrees is not uncommon. If I had any one of those conditions--let alone two--would feel I'm smoking my trans if in the 250s.

And I've read everything that says 250 degrees is too high too it's fine, 275 is /meh and 300 is real bad, m'kay. But will 'fine' let me get 300-500,000 miles plus from my trans? I don't think so. And what happens when I add 3inches of lift/and 35s to it? You guessed it, my trans tempt will go up for every MPH on the highway (unless--literally--the 4-inches of lift causes more airflow beneath it-which I kind of doubt).

My mechanical instincts tell me steady state 200-210 is where you want to be for 60-80K fluid changes.
    At 220-240 degrees towing frequently, I'd change T-fluids 20-50K.

250+ degrees, steady state towing over long distances? Consider lowering your speeds, drilling more holes in you cat plates, add a trans cooler, or change your T-fluids every 20K? I always planned on doing the 3 quart drop every 10K or so, but now will be adding a transmission cooler as well.

But I have heard the factory kit as mentioned, unless pinned open, only opens at like 250-275F? That seems useless to me but I need to do something fast as I have more towing coming up and am not changing my under armor out...

Factory thermostat in kit opens at 185 - 190.
