    Tundras team-

Just starting to kick the ball around a bit and wanted to see if there was any interest out there. I have got a 2005 DC Limited that I love. With the kiddo and another down the road i've come to think that stepping in a newer rig with all the safety bells and whistles is a sound investment.

I am reluctantly checking if anyone with a 3rd gen, the newer the better, Platinum or Pro has any interest in getting out of their payment, or is as 1st gen obsessed as I am and wants to step back to 2005 in a trade arrangement. My truck and a wad of cash for yours.

Obviously it would have to make sense for both of us. Used trucks are high right now. I really have no interest in selling mine so just checking this out. IMG_9010.HEIC.jpgIMG_9020.HEIC.jpgIMG_9010.HEIC.jpgIMG_9020.HEIC.jpg

Mine is a 4x4 with 81k miles. Leer topper. Pioneer head unit with car play and a tailgate handle rear camera. Weathertech mats.

Would like a clean and well loved Platinum or Pro. Ideally with a canopy.

Sell your truck for 20k then put that down on a brand new one

that’s what I’d do in this scenario

Solid truck- just keep it and save the $

LD, radar cruise, sensor this and that are nice but won’t magically protect much. Just keep taking care of what you have, its nice and you probably drive it like you take care of it.
But hey, new trucks are fun too ..!

Real talk here, the Safety Suite in the Tundra is nothing to get excited about.

    • The Land Departure "Assist" is just a beep to let you know you are on the line. It will not prevent you from going over it into oncoming traffic or off a cliff.
    • The Radar cruise is convenient, but not amazing.
    • The emergency stop based on it can be wonky and brake for nothing.
    • Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are actually handy when backing out of a space, but certainly not groundbreaking.
    • The only thing you will really gain that might be of true value is some more airbags. I'm not even sure about that, because I don't know what 1st Gens have.
That's it. That's the entire TSS system in a nutshell. The New trucks that are coming might have more, but nobody knows yet. Not saying you should or should not swap to a 3rd gen. That is entirely your business and your choice. I'm just trying to provide you with info so you can make an informed decision.

I’m with Azure...nothing earth-shattering in the current platform...I’d say wait and see what the new platform brings. There will be a window of time that there will be 3rd Gen and “4th” Gens available and you can chose.

That is a beautiful truck! I think the 1st gens are a perfect size in the double cab configuration. I had an access cab bought new in 2001, felt the back was too small. If it were me, I'd keep the 2005. Take care of it and you'll never have to buy another truck, they are that good. But I also understand the need for newer better stuff. Good luck.

I am obsessed with 1st gens, but I have a second gen and it’s nowhere near as clean as yours appears to be. I think as others have said, keep it, and don’t get in a rush to upgrade for safety concerns.

I think with the current used truck market, you would be better off going new. The dealer bought my 2018 with 43k on the clock and a few mods for an amount that I could not turn down given that my truck has been sitting a lot since I bought the GX. I'm going to wait out the market and maybe get a 2023-2024 if I like what I see.

100% with Azure. If safety is on your mind wait for the next gen. It MIGHT (who really knows) have 360 cameras and better obstacle avoidance.

That's an extremely clean 1st gen you have. If you decide to sell it it shouldn't take long. Not sure I'd part with it but I understand your situation. Good luck either way Mike

All sound advice! I do love the truck. I am very curious about the next gen and if I sell mine straight up I will buy one of those. Ideally I’m looking for someone who loves their truck like I love mine and had done some of the little stuff already, topper leveled maybe some decent tires etc. anyhow. I’ll keep my ears open if anyone gets curious. If not it’ll be a 4th gen for me!
