Anyone 1st Gen folks hauling kayaks inside their beds?
(CodyP, ignore this, I've seen your setup already)

I hit the kayak hauler thread and seems like most people are mounting on the roof, on top of the cap, and other above-roofline positions I'd like to avoid my dumb ass inevitably forgetting about clearance and WHACK, no more yaks.

I really like what @Brown Bear did in the yak thread I mentioned above, seen here, custom job: https://www.tundras.com/threads/how-do-you-carry-your-kayaks.49803/page-2#post-1684959

I have a roof rack. We use it on the Highlander sometimes. I'd just like to find something neater and more orderly than just netting them into the bed.

Ive hauled dozens of models of boats to 16+ feet in the bed of my Tundra and Taco over my last 15 years in the Paddlesports industry. I rarely put boats on my racks unless its Glass.

How big of a boat and what type are you hauling? Generally speaking just use a Bed Extender as needed and haul with the tailgate down not up. Some foam blocks and tie downs mounted low will help. Ive also used a Stacker system to put 4-5 boats on their side in the back. Just depends what you really need for what boats you have to move.

Completely different "yakkin", thought this was going to be a detailing thread.

Mom and Pops showed up, it appears I've inherited their Tamarack Angler 100's (10ft). I missed out on getting their 14ft v-hull jon boat b/c we've got nowhere to park it safely right now, I guess they felt bad. I've been relying on friends to get out on the water or fishing from the shore for many years now.

Just trying to figure out what would work best for the truck. For some reason I thought their 'yaks were 7-8ft. So in the bed these'll probably go.

10' thermoformed PE boats dont overthink it just throw them in the bed and strap them down. Bed extender wont even start touching a boat until the 12+ mark. I prefer tailgste down and just some downward pressure to keep them in, doesnt take much.

One of these will help you make sure the idiots behind you see the boats. If you wanna shoot me your address ill even send a couple your way.

these inflatable kayaks dont take up any room at all. And they’re fine, i wouldnt wanna go down our rapids, but to use on the lake they’re top notch. And @20lbs ea. i can tote em both at the same time.

i dont think there would be any problems here, maybe flip em over, run a strap through the handle at the front of the bed, and over the top at the back of the bed.

You may want to replace your tailgate straps soon. It sucks when they break and your tailgate slams into your bumper or gets whacked out.

Sadly, I gave my dad my inflatable boat a few years back when they got their camper. I think that's part of the reason he gave me these - felt bad. He knows I've been suffering over here not being able to easily get a line wet out in the water on my own.

Good point on the tailgate cables. Id hate for one to break at the wrong time, cause id probably be sitting or standing on it. That was the first time ive put both hard kayaks in the truck at the same time. The angler is mine, and its great. Never flipped out. The aruba is a ladies boat. My brother is probably 180-200 lbs, and he’s barely above the water. And he has flipped on the same rapids every single time he’s rode the river.

Replacement OEM part number is 65770-0C090 and runs between $7-13/ea depending where you buy. You need two total, they're universal for R/L. If you can find a parts place doing free shipping between McGeorge, Serra Toyota, or any others given we have a holiday coming up, you could potentially fix both for less than $20.

You can also pick up Dorman replacements at the parts store for about $15/pair.

Back to the yaks, I just go with the yeet them in the bed approach, but then again I'm only driving about 3 miles most of the time since I live on a creek.

Found this, thought it was cool. The chinese engine mfg is being sued by suzuki or kawasaki or someone and something…but msrp is like 10k for something that could be built for less than 1k.
