Thoughts on wrangler MTR? I've read alot has anyone had experience with them? Gonna pull the trigger tomorrow so I've narrowed it down to Wrangler MTR or nitto mud grapplers

I know this is a derail and not one you listed, but Cooper STT Pro's are what I'm running right now, and I love them.

FYI I have only read about the MTR.
My Buddy has NITTOS and digs them.

I'm open but kind of narrowed minded from my findings. Always open to be convinced other wise

I've had both, I'd go with MTRs for sure. Stronger sidewall with kevlar for puncture resistance, tread pattern seemed to grip better in the dirt even at 35psi, and they look great.
Trying to find pics of when I had the Nittos, they wore too quickly and didn't perform as well in nasty mud. Currently running KO2s and very pleased 6k miles in

    Cheaper... ;)

I haven't run either of the ones you mention though, so no clue on performance, but I would assume that neither of us could tell the difference. I will say though that they are pretty quiet on the pavement for MT's.

I switched to 35" MT/Rs from 35" BFG KO2s, but they only lasted a couple weeks on the truck because I couldn't stand them. I now have Dick Cepek Fun Country in 37s and I like them much more. The MT/Rs made for a very rough ride and were very loud. I never took them off road. The shoulder of the tire was so square I thought they made the truck steer weird in turns.

But, tire performance and ride are highly subjective, so what's rough to me may be perfectly normal or smooth to someone else. Good luck with your search.

I’ve got 50k on my trial grapplers and can easily go another 10-15k before they are done. Never cared for the mud grapplers or Terra’s.

    Off topic....

With a 3 inch lift I should be ok with 295/70 right? I'm 4wd. I've read both yes and no.... I've spent good money to get my paint perfect. Wheel spacers and flares arent gonna happen.

Had the Wrangler MTR tire on my Jeep and absolutely loved that tire. Never got stuck once and drove great on the street. I am surprised that this tire is not talked about and used more.

I got about 40k, but that's with lots of aggressive offroading and freeway miles. My buddy with a 2001 Tundra got over 50k with his MT/Rs.

As for clearance of the 295/70 and a 3" lift, you should be free of rubbing except maybe the mud flaps at full lock in reverse.

I'd do some browsing with the search function here tonight before buying tomorrow. Lots of different lift/tire combos and someone has most likely done exactly what you're looking to do, with pictures too

Been there boss man. Found a couple which helped me narrow it... nothing really on mileage and true honest review. Not the aspect I'd wanna see... so figured I'd post here for extra wisdom...

OP, what did you decide, or have you? Can I ask why you are looking at those specific tires? I'm only asking because you said you spent good money to get the paint in good shape on your truck, so you likely won't be offroading. That Nitto Mud Grappler is an extremely aggressive tire, I wouldn't go with those on a pavement truck for the noise alone. I've never run either of those tires, but I've read a lot of good reviews on the MTR on the jeep forums.

What's your main goal with these tires, is it strictly looks?

I can't comment on performance of the MTR's, but I would definitely take a look at the Trail Grapplers, Toyo MTs, STT Pro's, even the Yokohama MT's. All of those are going to have much better road manners than the Mud Grapplers, and still perform well in the mud.

Yep. They wear and perform much better than the Trail Grappler M/Ts I replaced. The Trail Grap rubber chunked off in a couple places. Totally not impressed with the Trail Grap. Those Wranglers are a nice tire too but I mostly see them on Jeeps. Very few on full size trucks. Could just be coincidence.

MTRs are probably one of the toughest tires out there but I hope you like tire whine. They are noisy and I ran Buckshot Mudders on a F150. I was supposed to get Duratracs on my Tacoma but Discount screwed up and put a set of MTRs on instead. They realized what they did the next day and called but I was headed to the hunting ranch. They said to run them for a while and if I liked then I could keep at the Duratrac price. It was tempting but did not need that heavy of a tire on the Tacoma. In addition to the noise they are heavy. I was setting up for hunting season and ran all over the ranch. I gave those tires a workout over some rough terrain and they looked brand new afterwards.

Made my mind up gonna try out the MTR's... Gut is telling me to just order a 6" lift with these tires, its purely for aesthetics because as embarrassing as it is for me to admit this, my truck is a parking lot princess. Probably gonna get the RC 6 because I want to keep my TRD rims.. Gonna marinate on this choice overnight before i call in the morning.... FEEDBACK welcome

I have a 2 inch AAL. Will that bring my ass up too high with the RC? I love a rack so I planned to keep it. Worse case I'm putting Bags on it if they have to take the AAL out because of the crazy rake. I hate a level truck (my preference is a rake)

No way I would put MTRs on a pavement queen. Performance on wet roads, noise, and ride are reasons why. Only time I would put those tires on a truck in one that spends lots of time off road.
