Hello, and thank you for the inclusion in this forum.

    We have a 2018 Tundra Platinum, Crewmax 5.7 V8 with a payload of 1185.

Looking at a TT with 515 pound hitch weight. Two passengers in truck for a total of 400 pounds.

Not planning on hauling anything in the truck except us.

Would you feel comfortable with this? FYI: 2020 Imagine 2250RK travel trailer

I would absolutely feel comfortable with this payload which is within spec. Are you using a weight distribution hitch?

That is about what we tow too with 2018 crewmax 4x4, same payload as you. Get a weight distribution hitch and load the trailer evenly to keep pin weight within spec of the tundra payload and it will tow great.

Of course. Towing capacities have a pretty big margin before your truck actually snaps in half and kills you.

Wow, this is a completely different response than what I have gotten from the folks on a few different RV forums. Thank you very much.

Does anyone have a recommendation of a good WDH? Should I just go with the Husky that the RV dealership includes in the deal or get one of the premium ones I hear people talk about (Hensley, EQ, Anderson).

Gvwr is only 6995 on the trailer. Even loaded down, That’s well within spec. It will tow just fine.

Thank you for your input. My concern was with the payload, not GVWR (although i know that factors in). It has been a rubics cube and significant learning curve but I think I am getting there!

Welcome.. I have a easy lift system. I heard that the equalizer is the better than what I have.

You will be fine with the Husky WDH that is included, as long as it has been set up properly. My 14 has about 1300 payload. The trailer we tow has 550 lb tongue. Passengers and Cargo push 700 lbs. By the math, we are cutting it really close. However, we've never experienced any issues and the Tundra handles everything very well. We have "generic" WDH that I have played around with and adjusted just right for our rig.

I think the Tundra's payload is a little under rated. Plus, the WDH helps to manage the load and distribute some of the weight back to the trailer's axles. Most important thing is to check your tires for proper inflation for trailer and tow vehicle.

Edit: just saw your last post with the hitch weight and GVWR. Looks like your hitch weight is based on unloaded weight. Generally, you will want the hitch weight to be about 12-15% of your loaded trailer weight for stability purposes.

Great, so, we wont be loading the trailer to the max of 7000 BUT, if we did, then 12 percent is 840, plus 400 for my husband and I (people argue about whether payload includes one driver at 150 pounds) brings the payload up to 1240....SO....55 pounds over my 1185 payload of the Tundra. This seems reasonable. Agree?

I sent you a PM about being careful with RV dealer's advertised weights. With the example you used above, if those were the true weights, I wouldn't have any concern. But that is just me and my comfort level towing a travel trailer with the Tundra.

Thank you for taking the time to PM me additional feedback. I bought a Sherline tongue weight scale and will measure it myself. It is also possible the payload weight limit on the Tundra is underrated. The best I can do is to take the manufacturer recommendations and try to stay as close to that as possible and then hope for the best.. :)

Tundras Payload ratings are under rated. But better super safe than sorry I guess......

Yes, it is stock. It does have the optional extra large 38 gallon fuel tank and the tow package. But no mods, if that what you mean.

I have the Husky Centerline WDH with 800lbs bars https://www.etrailer.com/Weight-Dis...GQdKCPyA8BjH0tC79Ex8NKykCwOGSXKBoCt1sQAvD_BwE on my 2016 5.7 CrewMax and I tow a 2019 26” Grey Wolf. My empty weight is 6200 with 725lbs tongue weight... but I have two full propane tanks, a now dual battery set up, even fully loaded with a full fresh tank and everything I don’t even know it’s there. I love the set-up so no complaints from me.
