When did Wix start doing this? Considering the stock one doesn’t have this, any reason I shouldn’t use this filter? Thanks in advance.

Wix makes great filters, I'd leave it on. I bet it filters air even better. I may get one next time I need a filter. Clean air is good, and for me even of it's a little more restrictive that's fine.

I swear by WIX. Great filters. I ran K&N for a few years And had some issues from it. Went to WIX and had much better results. I have yet to replace filter in my Tundra since it’s still so new but will before summer

Leave the pad on, that’s how they come- I believe it may be a moisture barrier. They’ve been like that for a long time, at least for the 4Runner. WIX makes great stuff- they’re what my garage uses.

I like it, more protection. That will be my next air filter .
But doesn't the box have another filter pad built in to It that you can't replace?

    Pretty things
    Extra, extra filtering power.

Yes, the filter box does have an additional 'post filter' if you will.

This looks to add a pre-filter filter. Cool

My WIX filter has the same stuff on it. No issues for the last 2 years, I believe it's just a pre-filter.

I agree nothing wrong with it. Just remember more filter = less airflow. Might need to change more often. Or, may be able to vacuum it off easier. Who knows.

With my engine element by Wix, whose air and oil filters I also swear by, my 5.7 whines a bit at takeoff when it's subzero temps. It's been isolated to a certain gasket that has a plastic screen in it unique to Tundras 5.7's that isn't there in the Sequoia, and it makes me think of going back to stock air filters. But not yet, only been 10k miles.

Wix is the air filter of choice here. They make filters for a few brands.
I believe Denso makes the Toyota OEM filters so if you want to stay stock and save money, buy the Denso filter. Rock Auto carries them. Or at least they did.
