They ate it up pretty Good. Built a big nest under the hood of my 2014 Tundra. Multiple wires with no idea which colors go with which with multiple of each color wire. Am I screwed here or what?

Oh, I only have full coverage, not comprehensive insurance. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Unfortunately that looks to be beyond a backyard repair in my opinion, I would definitely go for a new harness in this situation. Good luck.

Wow - I hate that! I agree that it looks like a full harness replacement.

    I feel your pain!!!
Had this happen to me 4 times in 2 years at my place of work. I have a 2017.
If you have comprehensive insurance coverage, most insurance company's will cover with your deductible.
Mine happened on the passenger side by the fire wall. I started popping my hood after trying all sorts of remedies to deter these pests.
Also mine were attacked by squirrels 3 times and one rat.

IMG_3075.jpg This is the same place mine was chewed up but not quite as many wires broke. How did you repair it and how much did it cost? Who did you have do the work?

Just peel the (not so protective) wire loom back more to expose the wire colors. Then just go to town patching them back together. Start from the center of the wire bunch and work your way outwards.

I have been looking at the Tundra wiring harness thread with interest. This afternoon my 2001 Tundra would turn over but not run. On opening the hood a squirrel popped up surprised! A harness branch on the left side was chewed totally off with wires shreds everywhere. I drove it yesterday but it did hesitate on start up. I’ll try to strip the main harness back and splice a new connection piece in. Do those rodent deterrent bags work?

Ive never heard about this happening in northern Utah. Is this a regional thing somehow?

Try wrapping aluminum window screen around the wires, it work for me when I used to park outside.

I have repaired wiring harness that were chewed up like the pictures a couple of times now and it can be done but it is a slow process because I prefer to solder everything back together and use heat shrink tubing because butt splices are OK if it is just a very few wires but when it is many it gets messy and always start in innermost wires and work your way out Paying very close attention to the wire color markings.

Nope, can't really smell it at all. Apply every few months or so

A good friend who has a number of old cars recommends a mixture of 91% rubbing Alcohol, candle oil essence; and a herb like cayenne pepper. Put it in a spray bottle and spray all harnesses. I'm trying it so we'll see....

This is why I keep the green rat poison blocks in my engine bay. Works like a charm.

Controlling their population on the property surrounding the vehicles is a big deal if you can do that, with lots of bait traps along routes they travel. They overpopulate if the property has nesting places, and then they run out of food and then really hard to keep all of them out of the vehicle or entering your living spaces. This is war, gotta go scorched earth. Establish a perimeter. Add snap traps where you can use them. The ones with the yellow plastic paddles are the best. And the green bait stations are HD.

I have had catastrophic results with poison and urge caution. You can not control where the little bastards are going to die. If it happens deep inside your dashboard or somewhere in the air ducts you will not realize it until it has started to rot. Then you get to disassemble everything trying to find the mess and finally you get to try to get rid of the odor. Ask me how I know, lol
