looking to see if any of you have had this issue with your truck. I went through a car wash the other day and noticed the weather stripping at the bottom of my windshield was starting to come loose. took it to dealer and they said it looks like i hit it with an ice scraper (i did not) and that they wont fix it. the stripping is part of a larger wiper component cowl piece and it is $580!!!. have any of you had this issue and had it replaced under warranty. im going to escalate this with the dealer obviously .

I was putting some waxaddict on my cowl and pushed on that rubber seal too hard. It can be snapped back into place, it’s just a little tricky to do it.

Mine is the same too today was putting 303 and I think I push down too hard. Try to snap it back but the seal doesn’t lay flat to the windshield. Help please. :)

I pushed mine accidentally and it rolled underneath itself. I took a plastic putty knife and coerced it back out of its hole LOL.

yeah it's pretty much ruined once it gets pushed down and separated. This should be a recall item in my opinion. Good news is that i go in to have mine replaced under warranty tomorrow. All i had to do was raise the issue that this seems to be a very common problem and insinuate some bad reviews online.

don't really make a big point of saying you pushed it in. tell them you took it to a car wash and it shoved it down. thats what happened to mine

Mine wasn’t ruined, it’s perfect once I put it back in place.

I just bought my truck two weeks ago, noticed a couple days after buying that this part had separated from almost half the cowling. I was able to push it back in after a couple of tries and it went back, no issues since. This is a 2019 truck so seems to be an issue.

Mine was like that when I bought the truck and I pushed it back in place by hand. However, yours looks a little deformed. If it is they should warranty it.

Reported this similar issue about the cowl seal. Toyota inspected and will be replaced today at cost with Toyota warranty.

Took mine in to the dealership and the quote is $622.50. Said the trim piece is part of the cowl panel (55708-0c061) but in the part diagram it
shows two different items. I have the extended warranty out to 100k but the dealership did not see that info in my account and said it wasnt covered. Spoke to the warranty company and they say otherwise. So its back to the dealership I go.

Follow-up on my Oct 10th post.

Not covered under any warranty 3/36 or Certified. Im 6 months outside my 3/36
and the extended wont cover it because its "a trim piece" so they say. Even though
that small trim piece is part of the cowl panel.

Contacted Toyota corp and they will reimburse me $200.00, all I need is copy of the work order
    and receipt showing payment.

My question is: what function does that small rubber trim piece serve? And if I choose to not
replace it, what will that cause down the road.

@Roman - is the small trim piece available separately from the cowl piece (55708-0c061)

Just curious why the cowl was very expensive. Could be the whole assembly or labor? The cowl on my tundra was recently replaced. It is under warranty and I noticed it was just the cowl that was replaced.

$444.00 for the part and $178.50 install is what the dealership quoted.
I even asked them, if the small trim piece was available and they said no - lol

I don’t know what yours looks like, but mine got pushed down in when I was a little aggressive drying the windshield off. I was able to re-position the rubber with a plastic putty knife.

No, the rubber strip I linked to is on the bottom side of the cowl where the hood closes against it, not the one on the windshield side. If you need the one on the windshield side, it does come with the cowl.

I was told by the service guy at my dealership that the small rubber trim piece is part of the cowl. I hoped it was available separately, but I guess not.
    Thanks for your time @Roman

Mine isnt too bad. It was also pushed down so I gently pulled it out and now its all wavy.

my concern is, if I dont have it repaired properly it might cause other expensive issues down the road.

I don’t think it’s gonna hurt anything at all. It’s probably more of a rubber cushion between the cowl and the windshield. It’s not a perfect seal by any means.

Same here. I actually did it when I was doing my Solution Finish / Black Wow review. I finagled it back in place. I was considering running a bead of silicone across it.

I may not even worry about it then. Toyota is still giving me $200.00 for whatever I choose, so I may just use that $$ elsewhere.. LOL

Video of 2007 Tundra Wiper Arm Removal and the cowl panel.

I would assume its the same for a 2016.

    https://youtu.be/JNpvwMZfD8c

I may take it off and see if I cant attempt a fix for the small trim piece.

I looked at mine today whilr wiping windshield and noticed the cowl/strip is warped and not sitting flush against the windshield in several areas. Anyone else have this issue? Is this a problem and cause to have dealer repair or just let it be and roll on?

I have same issue. That small piece is part of the entire cowl panel and it's expensive. If your truck is still in warranty, they should cover it, if not it will cost you. Mine is 6 months out of warranty and my certified warranty wont cover either because it's a "trim piece"
