This is my 2nd Gen with a 3rd Gen swap and was curious if any aftermarket 3rd gen bumpers would fit being that they bolt right up.

What was involved with getting the bumper to fit?

From the research I have done, yes it will fit. I would also like to buy your stock 3rd gen bumper when the time comes!

Did you use 1/2 bumper spacer mod?

A lot of aftermarket bumpers say 07-13 or 14-20. I just did mine and there were 4 bolts horizontally behind the bumper and it also attached to the 2 tow hook bolts per side. I can send some pics tomorrow or look for instructions for a 3rd gen bumper and see if it looks the same.

The mounts are the same on the 07 and up. For a 3rd gen bumper to fit on a 2nd gen, you have to shim it out 1/2 inch to match the body lines....depenending on the bumper. My bumper is the Rough Country for the 3rd gens.

Yea looking to put a 3rd gen bumper on my 2008. People have done it but no one has gone through in depth what's involved if it's just the spacer mod to match body lines on oem bumpers.

I thinks you still space it out if its an OEM bumper from a 3rd gen. Here is the initial thread. https://www.tundras.com/threads/3rd-gen-bumper-swap-on-my-2010.21938/

I found a 3rd gen oem bumper today but it only has the middle silver long bracket. Does anyone know what other brackets are needed thanks.

Post a picture of it. It sounds like you are referring to the crush tube that has 2 mounts on it. That is all that attached to the frame if its already assembled.

You will need 2 of the #17 mounts unless he has them.

Not that I am aware of but one of the 3rd gen guys will chime in. I put an aftermarket 3rd gen bumper on my 2013.

Can I reused my mounting tubes on my 2nd gen bumper to fit on the 3rd gen bumper or are they completely different brackets.

It does look like the part numbers are the same so you should be able to use yours. The only thing you will probably have to do is shim it out 1/2 inch.

Ok great.. and I think I can reused my inner fender covers correct. Yes 1/2 spacer is no problem just trying to get all the brackets. And what about the fog light bracket that would be my next step.

Where does the 1/2 spacing take place? Feel free to use the corresponding number from the parts diagram.
My boss is giving me the stocker off his 2015. Mine has... “seen action”.

Bumper shims go here. 2 on each side will give you the 1/2 inch. shim a.jpg shim 1.jpg

These “bumper shims”. Toyota part or custom? Available online for purchase? Thanks!

I think I’d rather have them made of steel. Dissimilar metals increase corrosion at the contact point. Unless the studs and contacting surfaces are also aluminum, steel is the way I’d go. May end up fabbing my own. Thank y’all for the info!!

FWIW you would be fine with the aluminum. I haven't heard of any issues at all.

Giving this thread a bump. Would love to see more pics and/or conversations about this conversion… not a huge fan of any 2nd gen aftermarket bumpers except for the Exp-one which is $$$
