Had a little "woopse" yesterday afternoon backing out of a tight spot near the head of a hiking trail... Cutting the wheel and backing out, I let the ass-end of the truck go off the parking area into some short little fir trees just a little bit. I neglected to see the pine tree stump nested in the patch of fir branches and backed the driver side bumper right into it. The bumper folded up into the bed panel and made the sound of dollar signs...

I'm guessing $2,000 to $3,000 to replace it?

Frig... After all that work on color matching the chrome too... Wicked Pissah...

That sucks... I got rear ended and I'm still waiting for their insurance. I'm guessing the same thing.. I was trying to see if they just replace the bed panel or the whole bed.

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing - panel replacement or how the hell it works...

Also, to hell with these flimsy corner bumper ends. Seems like a lot of them fold right up into the damn body panel causing more damage. I realize that a corner bumper piece is cheaper to repair/replace then a whole bumper, but jeez...

    Maybe I'm just butt-hurt....

Mine looked similar in March. About 3k to fix. Side panel needs replaced. Once they popped it out it was warped so it was unfixable. Side panel, bumper end cap and attachment pieces plus paint.

Frig sack! This is why I want real heavy duty bumpers. The stock ones are a joke.

That kind of shit happens. I was backing out of my driveway the other day and hit my neighbor's mailbox. Dented/scratched the tailgate and scraped the tail light. I wanted to blame my neighbor for his stupid mailbox but I should have been more careful.

Same thing happened to me a little while back. Just driving with my son in the front seat and got distracted. Hit our column in the front of our house. It’s a a lot of work to fix. Panel needs to completely removed. New panel welded on. New bumper, etc.
    Good luck with it.

Well, might as well put a high clearance bumper on there and start wheeling!

Is it me or are the bumpers on these really weak?

My Sierra had pretty strong bumpers on it. When I hit things nothing really happened at all. The bumper was one big solid piece. The Tundra has half a dozen pieces to Create the illusion of a solid bumper.

Hmmmm maybe it’s time to purchase a solid steel bumper...

Ranch Hand Summit front and rear bumpers. Diamondback SE tonneau cover. Rigid DOT fogs. LED headlight/fog replacement bulbs. Matt Gecko hood, and bed LED's. Foot well led's, and interior LED buld replacement. (warm) Broke the front shock of the 3" spacer lift, so replaced with 6112/5160 and 1' block rear. KO 2's. Speaker replacement, added amp and (2) 10's under seat. Weathertech floor mats. Salex organizers. Ziebart undercoating. RCI front, transmission/diff, and gas tank skids received, waiting for spring install. Compustar remote starter. front/rear dash cam.
I would guess the bumper is made to crumple for safety reasons. I went to steel bumpers.

I was amazed at the cost when I got rear ended. I second for stronger bumpers. These stock ones on my platinum suck. They are made to absorb and crumple.

Mine goes into the shop next week. 3700 to fix it. At least my aim is really good since I put the tree right on the seem of the tailgate, light and bumper.

Had this happen on my 07, it was somewhere in the 3000 range to repair. New bumper and body panel. I hit hard enough it cracked taillight as well.

I backed into a bmw two years ago. rear bumper of the car. you couldn't tell on the bmw unless you got real close and saw the cracked paint (older car). my rear bumper had behaved like it was made of legos and shove right into the side panel giving it a bit of a fold.

I'd love to meet the guy that came up with these bumpers and make him sit on the broken plastic pieces that fell out of it. give me the old fashioned solid steel bumper please.

Glad to hear I'm not alone!

I was taken back when I hopped out to assess the damage. I thought maybe a new corner piece, maybe a new piece of plastic, but I was shocked to see the friggin bed folded in...

Maybe they need to redesign the bed body panels to not go behind the "bumper" to allow it room to flex, fold, fail (whatever) on the next gen of Tundras. I understand (and agree) it looks clean how it is currently designed, but the functionality seems to be a downfall of the design.

I hit the basketball goal post in my driveway about 8 months ago producing similar damage but without breaking the paint coat. I got out the manual cable come-a-long and rubber mallet and after an hour had it back to almost perfect. I did it myself on the spot cuz I was so pissed at my lack of judgement with a basketball goal post that had been in my driveway for 24 years and never even a small glancing hit or even a rub.
