What was the deciding factor on why you bought a Tundra compare to the other car Manufacturers. I myself almost pulled the trigger on a Silverado Trail Boss but decided to test drive a Tundra. After the test drive I made up my mind due to the ride. Silverado looks nice but the ride was super bumpy to me. I know the Tundra will change once I put bigger tires and lift on it. Also for about the same price range I was willing to spend the Silverado was basic inside, cab was straight "work truck". And the final deciding factor was the Toyota brand of reliability. (I owned Toyotas before and never had a problem). What was yours?

I wanted the Pro as well but settled for Sport (didn't want to deal with the chrome) for about $10k cheaper. Plus no super white Pro in 200 mile range while I was shopping.

    Reliability...
My 2010 GMC Sierra was in great condition, rode great, but had no power and DRANK oil. GM could never get it right. After 4 years and more times in the shop than I could count I went back to Toyota.
My wife's Camry ran forever and heard Tundras and Tacomas do too. The Tacoma was too small for my taste. Been in my 2015 SR5 TRD Double Cab for 2 years now...
Lots of power, smooth ride, spacious interior, under seat storage in the back, easy to do oil changes and other maintenance...
Love this truck...wish I had bought it sooner!

    My top 3 reasons:

    1. Reliability.
    2. Reliability.
    3. Reliability.

    Rounding out the top 5:

    4. Awesome culture around Toyota in general
    5. Due to #4, a ton of aftermarket parts and options available to modify and upgrade with.

I've also owned a 1994 Toyota 4wd pickup (bought in 2006, awesome truck, sold in 2011), 2011 GMC Sierra (bought new, good truck, sold in 2014), a 2013 F150 bought in 2014, sold in 2016. May Ford rot in the vilest depths of bloody puss spewing hell) and a 2009 Ram (The Woman's, bought in 2013. Meh.).

After seeing what the competition offers on new trucks, I knew I'd be better off with a 15 year old Tundra. My next truck will also be a Tundra.

I'll be real honest in that the only reason I bought my Tundra was looks. I think it's the best looking truck out there....exterior looks not interior obviously.

familiarity and fear of the unknown. You'll live a happier life with an American made while it's running strong. They feel better, and bring more smiles. The tundra can be muted. But... for the most part the tundra will never need as frequent warranty repairs.

I bought a '20 Tundra for myself & a '20 4Runner for the wife. We both wanted vehicles that would last 15-20 years and we knew the Toyota's would be capable of it if we do our part and properly maintain them. I keep telling her that our 10 month old daughter's first car will be her 4Runner. I would've loved to have the new GM inline diesel motor, but just too many unknowns in terms of reliability.

Bought mine because I decided reliability was more important to me than anything else. If I'd been able to find a new 2018 Sierra 1500 with the max trailering package when I started shopping in July 2019, that's probably what I'd be driving now because I think they're a good balance of capability, reliability and functionality, especially interior layout. However, the 2019+ GMs seem to have taken another step down in the reliability department. Those went off the table for me when I heard about all the braking issues, though they seem to have resolved those with a couple recalls, so maybe I was hasty in that decision. They were also priced quite high when I was shopping more seriously in November 2019 but GM's prices always drop through the model year.

I have a coworker who has about 7 months left on the lease on his 2019 Trail Boss and is trying to decide which route to go. After I told him about my low payload, poorly laid out centre console/ stack and lack of storage under the back seats, he asked me if in hindsight I'd do it again and I wasn't sure.

Other than the Ram’s interior/suspension(which are glorious), in general the other manufacturers only advantage is gimmicky bullshit that looks good on paper(cylinder deactivation, start/stop tech, 200 cameras, loud ass chimes when you are “departing lane”, etorque which does essentially nothing etc etc.)

Funny thing is...its this gimmicky garbage that puts the hurt on their reliability and causes non-stop buyers remorse on their forums.:ballchain:

I think Tundras are the best looking truck out there but my #1 reason is reliability. My brother in law is a long time auto repair shop owner and he really geared me towards Toyotas the last 5 years or so. We have owned multiple Land Cruisers and now my ‘10 Rock Warrior. All of them have been super reliable and performed well.

I had a similar experience to many others on here, but my first Toyota—an 07 tacoma—gave me many trouble-free years. So I when I wanted a bigger & 4x4 truck, the Tundra caught my eye more than the F150

Had owned 03 Silverado 1500, 09 Ram 1500 Laramie, and a 2015 Silverado 1500. Got rid of 03 because it was not a crew cab....just an extended and wanted more room for growing kids. No real issues with that truck.

09 Ram....loved the room in the crew cab and the bells and whistles of Laramie package. Had electronic control module go up, issue with brakes locking up on rear, a few safety related recalls to be done, and something with the air conditioning fan very early on.

Traded the 09 paid off on the 15. Liked the Silverado as well and had planned on keeping it past 100K. Had a collapsed lifter fail at approx 80K. (Covered by extended warranty). And at approx 95K had issue that Chevy could not duplicate at dealer.......engine cut off for unknown reason and or at random times while driving. Kind of pissed me off because I had already bought a set of long tube headers I was going to put on at 100K after extended warranty was up. Was also going to do a true AFM delete.

Since this truck was no longer trustworthy.......I started test driving and shopping around.

New Rams are made in mexico. They also have some type of AFM where they drop cylinders for gas mileage. Ride nice enough but have lots of problems with their technology per their forums.

New GMC or Chevy.......now have something even worse than AFM........DFM where any of the 8 cylinders can drop off instead of just the same 4 going offline when switching from V8 to V4 in name of economy. More crap to break!! And not made in US if I am not mistaken.

Chevy has a perfectly good LS3 motor 6.2 that works well in my 2017 Chevy SS. Any guess why it works well.........? Because it doesn't have that AFM crap on it.

Also tested new Ford f150. No way I was going EcoBoost.....too many horror stories. So tried 5.0 V8. That shuts off when stopped and starts up again when you get to moving again. There is a bypass for it.....but this is more crap to break.

Don't have enough to tow to justify a diesel.

Was sick of the big 3 domestics either being made elsewhere, or trying to appease the thornburgs of the world to get federal kickbacks for being eco friendly, and having reliability issues earlier than things should for the money they cost.

Wife has had 2 Avalons with nasty 2hr a day commutes stacking the miles up. Both have been good cars with over 200K. Still have one of them.

    Tundra has reliability.

Tundra TRD Pro has the looks.

    Crew max has the room.

Can tow what I need it to.

Toyota Tundra was/is made in Texas.

And it already sounds good with the dual exhaust.

And Toyota is not trying to appease the tree hugging thornburgs of the world as it stays a V8 mated with their reliable transmission!

Was a very easy choice for me. Kept my fingers crossed that the Silverado would not cut out while dealer test drove it. Got a decent trade value and drove home in my TRD Pro Tundra!

Thanks for making such an all around decent truck!!

What it was for me was the looks of the second gens. It took me some time to find one I liked, but it s a done deal now. I saw something today though. I was at a Toyota dealership, and walked through the showroom. In a back corner was a sold, black on black 2020 Supra GR. Never thought it would happen but I had a sudden desire to trade in my Tundra.

I would have to park either truck or supra down the street because of parking. I get only one spot where I live. And even down the street t s like this sienfield episode.

I'm a car enthusiast so I had a lot of different makes/models over the years. BMW, Nissan, Chevy, Honda, Lexus, etc. Of course I had my share of a few Toyota's also. I had a 99 Tacoma 4cyl single cab...I drove the crap out of it but never failed, it was a tank! Then a 01 Tacoma double cab, also a tank. I drove it for over 5 years and sold it for more than I payed for it. I was looking for another Tacoma but noticed that the prices of Tundras were almost the same or not much more. So I test drove the Crewmax with 5.7L and I was sold! Loved the huge back seat area, and the power. I think about another Tacoma sometimes but I don't think I can ever go back.
