I mean its like ppl cant drive anymore without thinking. Who needs lane keep assist, who needs a backup camera, who needs a blind spot monitoring system. I mean if you cant drive without those things then you should not be driving. I even drive a f150 right now as my work truck with one of those big ARE backs and I can maneuver just fine without no assist since its a base 2011 f150 with hand crank window. I like the simplicity because maybe I am just weird and I am just 24 and I don't need no assist or anything to drive, I can even parallel park the f150 without no backup camera(because the f150 doesn't have it and the company I work for is to cheap to buy an add on lol). Its also going to drive up the insurance cost more because they have to replace more parts. Its just like manual, most ppl cant drive manual in the states. I swear I was born in the wrong era.

Cheaper insurance with them on the vehicle
Safer fails (as long as driver is paying attention to them, and they’re working)
Less body damage from people backing up to hook up trailers, spots, etc

I'd prefer it if the people driving next to me at 70mph+ have lane assist and blind spot monitoring. It's not just for their own safety.

I like the backup camera because of the blind spots caused by the fancy seats and body shapes. All that other crap they can keep.

The funny thing is I never use my backup camera in my venza and like I said I have no backup camera on my ford work truck but I can park and get out easily.I always park backwards everywhere I go.

I can live without it :). Ill probably be on this earth for 60-70 more years -.- and I hate my generation especially with idiots and with politics and other stuff going on. Being 24 in this generation sucks. Like how rude do you have to be to stand on the flag and disgrace yourself. Soldiers have died for that flag.

Average vehicle speed limits are much higher than they used to be while human response time remains unchanged. I don't mind some extra safety features...

If you drove a new F150 you would definitely use the backup camera. That piece of crap has more blind spots and handles like shit.

I like some safety features in a car, but I do believe some are distracting for one, but also people could rely too much on em and be a problem. There has to be a good balance on how they are used, needs to assist and not replace the driver.

imo, the back up camera was to do ONE thing and that is to keep from backing over children. It's sold to adults to justify a safety item that most don't think should be paid for or should use for anything else.

I feel ya. Has anyone noticed the lights on the driver outside mirror light up on other vehicles as you pass them in the left lane. totally negating them from turning and looking for traffic before they change lanes?

This weekend my wife backed into my jeep in the driveway. Some people need this stuff. She has the camera and the sensors that beep at you.

Everything evolves. Usually for the good. Based on research and factual evidence (Cars). I'm sure alot of people a long time ago "didn't need no stinking passenger side mirror, seat belts, air bags, intermittent wipers, high beams, day time running lights, secondary hood latch, emergency brake, neutral safety switch (clutch), etc...."

It doesn't matter if you're a bad ass 24 year old driver. Their market is alot of other drivers, and no company wants their cars reputation stained with killing or injuring people.

I see it as a convenience, but don't rely on it. Camera is sweet for hooking up my boat. Parking sensors is so I don't have to guess if I'm 5 inches away or not, and stop 4 ft away just to be sure. Rear traffic alert is nice so I don't have to inch out of a blind parking spot for 20 seconds to realize no one is coming and could have backed out at normal speed. Radar cruise so I don't have to always mess with the setting for merging traffic while towing in the required slow lane... I could go on. Trucks are pricey regardless of these features, so I expect some convinient features.

They sell basic packages without most of this stuff, except back up camera is now a federal requirement I think.

Edit: added a safety feature I like.
