Why bolt on exhaust vs just a new muffler ??

Why do so many people pay $1000+ for a new "Full" exhaust system when you could pay $150 for a new muffler and another $150-200 to have a muffler shop cut out and weld in the new muffler?? I'm not really seeing what you are gaining by spending the extra money.

If one part is going then maybe the other part isnt far behind?
They dont know you can do that

I would personally get the whole thing replaced if it looked bad enough.

I guess a lot of situations would make it different

That is like asking why someone doesn't do it themselves.

My reason is I am lazy and I have more money than time so I have to spend money.

Some one elses reason is they dont know how

Others is they dont have a garage or tools or something like that

I am more referring to the people with newer trucks getting exhaust for sound alone, not replacing rotten pipes etc.

Best example is Why pay $1100 for a BAMuffler system instead of paying $300 for a Borla ProXS Muffler replacement.

That's exactly what I'm doing this go around. Custom SpinTech Sportsman muffler. $150 and yes probably $150 for install. Dual exhaust sounds great but not needed. Won't lose much low end torque at all. Will sound great too. I wouldn't pay anyone to "bolt on" my exhaust. I'd do that myself. Easy peasy. Welded is the only way to go in my opinion.

150 for muffler then 150-200 for install? That's still about the same as some of us pay for the full setup. Then just do it ourselves as its bolt on..
But I do agree alot of people over pay for exhaust setups

That would be the second line
Or they want all the same from the company.
Like buying a set of dishes.

The reason this forum has as many people as it does is people asking questions.
Some get on line because they heard that XXXX system is better so they buy it.

I only needed a sub woofer but I spent 2500.00 on all speakers and an amp because I wanted all the same.
I had a sony rack system and although I could have gone with a different tape deck that was better I wanted all Sony (This was a few years ago)

I am getting a new head unit as well not because it is needed but my OCD is killing me

I went the BAMuffler route in case I ever decided to go back to stock - which I did when I traded the truck in. I was able to keep the stock system in tact, and I still recouped 2/3 of what I spent on the BA system when I sold it.

I've had 3 different systems from the time I purchased the truck back in 2008 and was never happy with the previous 2 that were Gibson.....and magnaflow until I purchased the 8 inch BA muffler

I'm not stating that one sounds better than the other as I have never herd dirtydeeds and sound is personal opinion and is not a 1 sound fits all situation. I was just showing that there are other options than 1000$ bolt on systems

Also Keith will give you credit towards another system if the sound you were looking is not satisfied and he will take care of you.

Oh I wasnt saying yours was. I was quoting the OP 1st post how "so many people" spend 1000 on bolt on setups I'm not bashing your brand of exhaust or pricing. I personally dont care if someone spends 10 dollars or 5k of it's what they want it's what they want.. you are obviously happy with your setup and customer service that's all that matters

Borla SS Muffler isnt going to rot or drone. The matter of flowmaster sounding like shit is also an opinion. Some people like it. I like the flowmaster 50 series sound. You can also add aftermarket resonators if there is a muffler that drones and you don't like it.

I haven't even owned my truck for a full year yet. Including stock exhaust I am on my 4th system and finally happy with sound. I have no room to talk pricing because I'm well over 1000 with all the swapping I've done

You get a little more performance, no drone, better looking product (not something cut out with a reciprocating saw and welded in), and awesome customer service. $1000 is the full on TRD replacement.

My old 07's custom welded on (not bolted on) dual Flowmaster setup by Exhaust Pro's here in Denver sounded sweet. No drone....and not rotted out at almost 5 years. Got numerous compliments. Lol

I have researched this subject from top to bottom for about 2 years, and I have determined via research that the stock 5.7L exhaust system is nowhere near as bad as some say it is. I also found that the only true way to extract appreciable power gains from these engines via changes to the exhaust is to spend the big buck$ (a few thou$and), and replace the entire factory system with long tube headers and a 2 3/4" or 3.0" true dual exhaust system. Of course if you just want the LOUD sound of power, there are many companies ready to take your money.

As for myself, I will continue to enjoy my factory exhaust and maybe do the long tube x-pipe dual exhaust upgrade when I hit the lottery.

I thought about getting a louder exhaust for our new Tundra but after towing a trailer 600 miles I decided stock exhaust sounds just fine. No way I want it any louder when towing.

I have the dirty deeds exhaust. I’ve had many weld in mufflers in the past and was happy. But I was a little younger and didn’t mind when they droned. Flowmaster, Magnaflow etc. this is my first new truck ever in my life and I wanted something that was made to bolt in flange to flange. I didn’t want to cut my factory muffler out. After quite a bit of research this felt like the best fit for me. And the fact that if I didn’t like it I can swap it out for a different system. I wanted stainless and I didn’t want to see patched in pipes for the now shorter muffler. I didn’t want it to be a 2 into one muffler, I wanted 2 separate mufflers into a single wye. Dirty deeds is one of the few that actually tests his systems and tunes them. He doesn’t install an in-line resonator he installs the Helmholtz resonator which doesn’t affect flow at all. I was looking for a specific sound. I didn’t want it to sound ridiculous but I wanted grunt. And after further research, there isn’t much to gain from the factory exhaust without going for long tube headers. But there is definitely something to lose if you go to big of an exhaust without changing out the headers. Since Keith has done all the research, I felt his system was going to be best for me. And except for the black paint it damn near looks factory.

I installed it myself so I cut the middleman out of that factor. If I had a shop weld in a muffler and I hated it, well I lost all the way around on that deal. At least with Keith system I can recoup my money if I like or trade it out for another one of his systems, and just pay the difference.

People spend all sorts of ridiculous money on their trucks on things they don’t need and some probably won’t even use. So I see no difference in spending that money on an exhaust that you like that looks and sounds killer and doesn’t have any negative on the performance. I didn’t want to hack into my brand new truck with some bullshit muffler. I wanted something tried and true. No offense to anyone in that welds in a muffler only. As long as you’re happy that’s all that matters. The exhaust shops near me have seemed to have gone downhill and are ran by butchers. The guys I used to know have retired and sold the shop to a bunch of idiots.

I'm lucky to have Exhaust Pro's a couple miles away. A go to shop for Denver Metro wheelers, street racers, and basically folks with daily driver rides that want the best for 26 years now. Best work in the state. They specialize in totally custom systems if you have the scratch. They'll weld in a muffler into an existing setup and it looks totally professional. You won't find any clamps in their shop. I'll post pics of my SpinTech install when they do it. Going to look and sound fantastic
